League of Legends 2020 LEC Summer Split Week 5 Preview

League of Legends 2020 LEC Summer Split Week 5 Preview

The LEC is ready to resume after taking a week off to recharge. We are now in the halfway point of the season, and there are two teams tied at the top of the table at 7-2. Contrary to all expectations, neither team is G2 Esports or Fnatic, as instead upstarts MAD Lions and Rogue are pacing the field. G2 and Fnatic are instead in the crowded middle of the pack as seven of the ten European teams are either 4-5 or 5-4.

League of Legends 2020 LEC Summer Split Week 5 Betting Odds

SK Gaming -190

FC Schalke 04 +140

The only team that you can essentially dismiss at the halfway point of the season is Schalke. For the second straight split, the German organization started the season on a long losing streak, dropping eight straight games before finally upending Fnatic just before the mid-season break. Gilius has been something of a difference maker since returning to the lineup, but there are major problems in the top lane and mid lane.

SK Gaming have lost three straight matches, but a win here would put them right back at .500. They defeated Schalke in under 30 minutes and were one death away from securing a perfect game in their first meeting, so they should probably be bigger favorites. SK Gaming aren’t in the top half of talented teams in Europe, but they have a solid mid laner in ZaZee and a bottom laner that can carry in Crownshot.

Rogue -215

Excel Esports +155

There still doesn’t appear to be much respect for Rogue despite their strong start. They are far more talented than an Excel Gaming squad that is perennially disappointing. The only edge that Excel might have is in the top lane as Kryze has showed a potential to carry, but Rogue have the advantage at every other position. Inspired is much better than Caedrel in the jungle, and Larssen is far more skilled than Special. Rogue’s bottom lane has the edge too as though Patrik is on the same tier as Hans Sama, Vander is better at influencing the action and initiating than Tore.

Fnatic -280

Team Vitality +200

You could sense the frustration for Fnatic when they lost their final match of the first round robin. They wasted a 3-0 start with losses in five of their next six matches, and their only victory over a winning team was a first day win over Misfits Gaming. While Selfmade has played at an elite level and Rekkles has continued to be sharp, it appears that Nemesis, Hylissang, and Bwipo have taken a step back. The downturn for Nemesis is the most alarming given that Twisted Fate is in the meta and is one of his favorite champions, but he has done just 21.2 percent of his team’s damage per Games of Legends.

Vitality are very live dogs in this game given what we saw from them over the last month. They have shown promise with upset victories over G2 and Origen, and Milica is highlighting why the organization was so keen on landing him in the offseason. He is particularly dangerous on Corki, but he has an impressive champion pool.

Origen -115

Misfits Gaming -115

Kobbe was excellent in Misfits’ win over Origen last month. The Danish bottom laner was happy to return to Europe after a disappointing stretch in North America, and he showed it with a deathless game on Kai’Sa. He has been an instrumental part of this team’s success with a 5.9 KDA, but Upset will be looking to prove that he is the better bottom laner.

Upset has been spectacular in the Summer Split. He has carried Origen across the finish line multiple times, and he has a 9.6 KDA while doing 35.8 percent of his team’s damage. Upset has yet to die on Aphelios, so don’t be surprised if Misfits ban it away from him given the champion’s kit. If Upset is able to take the champion, Origen will probably be a smart pick in live betting.

G2 Esports -180

Mad Lions +130

It looks like Perkz will return to the lineup for G2 after an extended break. Perkz didn’t play in Week 4 due to fatigue and stress, and the reigning European champions are happy to welcome one of their superstars back. G2 steamrolled MAD Lions in Week 1 thanks to a 9/0/9 KDA from Perkz on Varus, and this rivalry might soon challenge G2/Fnatic as the most competitive one in Europe.

MAD Lions showed that their Spring Split performance was no fluke with their strong start to the Summer Split. Shadow has been a huge difference maker, and his play will be key to their chance of an upset against G2.
