League of Legends 2020 LEC Summer Split Playoffs Round 1 Preview

League of Legends 2020 LEC Summer Split Playoffs Round 1

The LEC Summer Split Playoffs will get underway this week. Six teams are hoping to punch their ticket to the League of Legends World Championships in Shanghai, and they all want to call themselves the best team in Europe on September 6. G2 Esports are the favorites to win it all despite a shaky Summer Split, but they will face a difficult opponent in the first round when they take on the MAD Lions. Rogue and Fnatic square off in the other Winners’ Bracket bout, while Schalke 04 and SK Gaming will meet in the Losers’ Bracket.

League of Legends 2020 LEC Summer Split Playoffs Round 1 Betting Odds

Schalke 04 -278

SK Gaming +202

Over the last three weeks of the regular season, no team was better than Schalke. They won seven straight matches to complete their miracle run and earn the last postseason spot. Gilius was incredible throughout the way, leading to countless memes being created involving the star jungler, and he earned All-Pro honors despite not playing for the first third of the season.

It hasn’t just been the Gilius show for Schalke though. Abbedagge has popped off in the mid lane with some strong performances when it mattered the most, and the bottom lane has really improved over the course of the year with Neon and Dreams finding their footing.

SK Gaming were the last team to beat Schalke back on July 18. Top laner Jenax was great in that game with a 7 KDA on Kennen, and he came up big in team fights. The bottom lane was even better though as Crownshot and Limit teamed up for eight kills and 26 assists without a single death.

G2 Esports -286

MAD Lions +203

This is a lot of respect for G2 considering what we have seen out of them in the Summer Split. Mid laner Caps has been the only consistent member on this team, and there have been real issues in the bottom lane and jungle. Perkz has been caught out of position too often, and Jankos has made some questionable decisions.

G2 closed out the season with six straight wins, but they lost their last match with MAD Lions, and they were upset by this team in the first round of the Spring Split Playoffs too.

The Lions have the ability to punish G2 in the bottom lane. Carzzy has been one of the best bottom laners in Europe throughout the Summer Split, and Kaiser was voted the best support in the LEC. Shadow has been excellent out of the jungle too, so this is a great spot to take the underdog.

Rogue -152

Fnatic +111

The top team in the regular season was Rogue, but they aren’t getting the respect they deserve from the oddsmakers. Rogue defeated Fnatic in both of their regular season meetings, yet they are only a slight favorite per the League of Legends betting odds ahead of this series.

Larssen has been rock solid in the mid lane, and you could make a case that he has been even better than Caps. Inspired leads the LEC with a 9.7 KDA out of the jungle, while the bottom lane of Hans sama and Vander has been superb even if there are some questions about the former’s champion pool after he played 10 games of Aphelios.

Meanwhile, Fnatic are in disarray. While Rekkles has played well in the bottom lane, the rest of the team has fallen off. Hylissang has made far too many mistakes and has a 1.7 KDA per Games of Legends, and Bwipo and Nemesis have looked shaky as well. That makes Rogue the play on Sunday.
