League of Legends 2020 LCS Summer Split Playoffs Preview

League of Legends 2020 LCS Summer Split Playoffs Preview

We will know which three North American teams have qualified for the League of Legends World Championship this weekend. Team Liquid and FlyQuest secured their spots last week, leaving just one spot available for either Cloud9 or Team SoloMid. Both teams were expected to make it to Worlds, so it will be a massively disappointing season for whichever team misses out on the event. C9 are the big favorites per the LCS betting odds on Saturday, but TSM have made a habit of knocking off their rivals when it matters the most.

Cloud9 -345

Team SoloMid +237

These teams split their regular season meetings this summer with C9 winning handily in the first game and TSM easily winning in the most recent game. In the latter game, Broken Blade had one of his best performances of the season, dominating Licorice’s Kennen with Irelia.

If that happens again this weekend, TSM have a great chance to pull off the upset. Broken Blade has been a major coin flip player this season, and you never know whether you’re going to get a great performance from him or a disappointing one. He has been better than expected in the playoffs though with a 5.1 KDA through 11 games.

Licorice has been the best top laner in North America for the last couple years. He has the lowest KDA on C9, but he actually led the team in damage this season per Games of Legends and he has the potential to take over on champions like Gangplank and Kayle. He should get the better of Broken Blade once more, but if he stumbles, that really opens the door.

The decision to acquire Doublelift hasn’t worked out as expected for TSM. Although the meta has shifted and he is playing traditional champions like Ashe and Caitlin, he has looked really shaky over the last couple weeks. That has led to him losing lane battles against lower-tier AD Carries like FBI and Johnsun, so Zven has to be excited given the issues at support too.

We have seen Bjergsen carry TSM on his back far too often over the last few years, and he is the only reason they have made it to this point. Bjergsen was exceptional over the last three games of their series against Golden Guardians, so he finished the series with eight more kills than the next most lethal player. He is always TSM’s primary win condition, so Nisqy and C9 will be out to neutralize him.

Team Liquid -278

FlyQuest +198

The pressure is off for both Liquid and FlyQuest since both teams have already earned their place in Shanghai. However, the winner of this game will earn a place in the LCS Summer Split Finals, while the loser will have to play the winner of TSM and C9 for the right to earn a rematch in the finals given the double elimination format.

It’s been a banner year for FlyQuest. The organization came out of nowhere to finish second in the Spring Split, and they followed that up with an upset over C9 that earned them their first trip to Worlds. PowerOfEvil continues to be phenomenal, dealing 33.5 percent of his team’s damage per Games of Legends, but the real impact player has been Santorin. The jungler has a 9.2 KDA with a high kill percentage and strong performances on Volibear and Gragas.

FlyQuest were the last team to beat Liquid back in late July. Liquid have been a wrecking ball since that point with eight straight victories to make it back to Worlds after a dismal Spring Split. Jensen has been phenomenal in the mid lane, while Broxah has been worth the wait after a delayed arrival due to visa complications. Tactical is more than filling Doublelift’s shoes too, teaming up with CoreJJ to make this potentially the best bottom lane in the region.
