League of Legends 2020 LCS Summer Split Playoffs Betting

The LCS Summer Split Playoffs have been set. The field is more crowded than ever as eight of the ten teams qualified for the postseason, but the stakes are higher than they have ever been due to the changes in North America’s qualification for the 2020 World Championship in Shanghai. There are no more championship points or regional qualifiers, so the three teams that will go to Worlds are the teams that finish in the top three in the Summer Split Playoffs. Fortunately, there is a little margin for error as this tournament is double elimination for the top six teams, but no team wants to have to traverse the losers’ bracket.

Round 1

Thursday, August 13

Team SoloMid -345

Golden Guardians +238

TSM needed some time to piece it all together, but the most successful organization in the history of the LCS ended the season strong. They won five straight games to put themselves in position to clinch a first-round bye before losing to Team Liquid on the final day of the season to finish as the No. 4 seed following FlyQuest’s victory. Fortunately, they have a very winnable series as they take on Golden Guardians.

We saw TSM knock off Golden Guardians in both of their regular season meetings. TSM blitzed the Guardians in their first meeting as Doublelift carried the day on Aphelios, but the Guardians had a 4k gold lead at the 20-minute mark in their second match last weekend. A big team fight loss at Mountain Drake stopped the Guardians at that point, and TSM took over from there as Bjergsen was exceptional on LeBlanc.

Bjergsen and Doublelift are the two best players in this series. They are the two biggest names in North America, and their reunion turned TSM into a real contender after a disappointing Spring Split. The duo have largely lived up to the hype, but Broken Blade and Spica are still big concerns for this team. Broken Blade has a deep champion pool, yet he is caught out way too often in the top lane. Meanwhile, Spica doesn’t have the same intuition as top-tier junglers, so he has largely been tasked with playing tanks.

Hauntzer would love to topple his former team, and he is one of the big win conditions for Golden Guardians. He has been solid on Kennen in the Summer Split, so don’t be surprised to see him on the champion given his role in team fights. The X-Factor will be the support battle though. Huhi has brought his bottomless champion pool to the position and has performed better than expected, while Treatz has been a huge upgrade for TSM. Treatz has an 11.7 KDA per Games of Legends.

FlyQuest -244

Evil Geniuses +177

The League of Legends betting odds were essentially reversed the last time these teams met in the postseason. Evil Geniuses were sizable favorites over FlyQuest in the Spring Split Playoffs, but FlyQuest managed to pull off the upset and reach the finals. They have continued to build on that finish over the Summer Split, and they poured salt in the wound by knocking off EG in their two regular season meetings.

FlyQuest ended the season on a six-game winning streak. They were the last team to knock off Liquid, and they overcame a rough early game to beat the Geniuses two weeks ago. WildTurtle has shined since returning to the bottom lane, and his 9.6 KDA is one of the best in the region.

It will be interesting to see what the Geniuses do to try to upend FlyQuest this time. They have benched Kumo in favor of using Huni in the top lane, but that decision hasn’t worked out too well as the team is 3-5 since making the switch. He has struggled to outperform opposing top laners in the laning phase, and the only champion he has excelled on is Gangplank.

Solo only takes tanks into the top lane for FlyQuest, so if Huni can’t take advantage, this team is in trouble. Bang has a limited champion pool at this stage of his career with a whopping 14 games on either Aphelios or Ezreal, while mid lane has been a mess as Goldenglue and Jiizuke have both struggled. FlyQuest will likely win this series 3-1.
