AfreecaTV GSL Super Tournament 2 Betting Preview

One of the last StarCraft II tournaments of the year is going on in Seoul over the next 10 days. Sixteen of the top StarCraft II players in Korea are squaring off in a single-elimination tournament with $30,000 up for grabs. The Round of 16 was split into two halves and the top half of the Round of 16 was played on Wednesday. The bottom half of the Round of 16 will take place on Saturday, December 5. TY and Maru were the top two seeds as they were the finalists in the Global StarCraft League Season 3 last month. The other 14 contestants had to play their way through the qualifier in order to participate in this tournament.

2020 AfreecaTV GSL Super Tournament 2 Betting Odds

Stats -323

Dream +220

Dream is looking to prove that he is ready to shine in premier tournaments once more. He was runner-up to Maru and Classic in two premier events in 2015, but he left to join the military in 2017 and only recently returned to the SC2 scene. His best performance so far is making it to the quarterfinals of GSL Season 2 in the summer, so he is a sizable underdog here.

As for Stats, he is one of the most seasoned players on the scene. Stats has been a pro player since 2012, claiming numerous premier titles during that stretch. He is currently ranked fourth in the ESL Pro Tour standings, and he finished runner-up at GSL Season 2 and made it to the semifinals of GSL Season 3.

Stats is the top rated Protoss player in the world, and his recent struggles against Zerg players won’t affect him in this match as Dream is a Terran player.

Innovation -526

Armani +329

Terran players are having a great time this year with three Terran mains in the top five, including Innovation. Innovation is SC2 royalty at this point. He has been a pro for over 12 years, as he continues to put off his mandatory military service. Innovation was easily the best player in the world in 2017 with three premier tournament victories in three months.

Armani is coming off his best performance of 2020 though. He made it to the semifinals of GSL Season 3 before losing 4-2 to Maru. Armani upset Stats earlier this week, but he is an inconsistent player. Some may want to give him a shot at these odds, but it’s harder to maintain consistency in best-of-five series.

Rogue -526

Bunny +329

The No. 2 player in the ESL Pro League standings is Rogue. He beat Zest at IEM Katowice earlier this year and knocked off Stats in the GSL Season 2 Finals. Rogue wasn’t as successful at GSL Season 3, but he has lost his last two matches against Dream and Parting coming into this tournament.

Bunny has yet to break through as a professional player. He has yet to win a premier tournament, and he has only made it to the semifinals of a top tier event one time in his career. He has lost four of his last five matches ahead of this showdown, so it’s hard to back him even though he is a sizable underdog.

Maru -172

Cure -127

This match should not have taken place in the quarterfinals, but Cure was drawn against Maru. Cure finished runner-up at GSL Season 1, yet he has not been as strong since that point. He is still the No. 8 ranked player, but this is a great price to bet on Maru.

Maru was runner-up to TY at GSL Season 3. He is one of the Four Horsemen of Terran, and he has a strong history at GSL events. Maru toppled Cure 4-1 to win King of Battles two months ago, so this is the best bet on the board.
