2021 LOL World Championship Semifinals Betting

Korean dominance continues to be the main storyline of the 2021 League of Legends World Championship. Three LCK teams are in the semifinals of this year’s Worlds, and all three of those teams swept their opponents in the quarterfinals. Gen. G had little trouble with Cloud9 over three games, DWG KIA smashed MAD Lions in the quickest quarterfinals ever, and T1 dismantled fellow LCK side Hanwha Life Esports thanks to some mystifying draft decisions from the latter. That has Korea primed to win its seventh Worlds title in 11 years.

2021 League of Legends World Championship Semifinals Betting Odds

DWG KIA -256

T1 +186

The defending Worlds champions are clearly the team to beat at this point, and the winner of this series will be favored in the finals next week. DWG KIA are a moderate favorite though as they have yet to lose a game at Worlds and beat T1 3-1 in the LCK Summer Split Finals two months ago.

ShowMaker has lived up to his name. DWG KIA’s mid laner is carrying an 8.4 KDA and is dealing over 25% of his team’s damage. He has been great on control mages and roaming champions, allowing his team to get heavy advantages in the early game, and he has superb chemistry with Canyon.

Canyon is the best jungler in the world. He has been arguably the most impressive player at Worlds, and he leads DWG KIA with an 8.5 KDA. BeryL is back in form after a largely rocky 2021 campaign, and Khan has been an unexpected difference maker in the top lane. He was seen as the weak link, but he is playing out of his mind in his final season before mandatory military service, dealing over 31% of his team’s damage per Games of Legends.

T1 has the GOAT in Faker. The three-time world champion is still playing at a high level, though he isn’t quite as mechanically gifted as he was in the past. T1’s bottom lane has been superb too with Keria setting things up for Gumayusi and others, leading to Keria holding an 18.4 KDA and Gumayusi holding a 22.3 KDA.

Oner has looked good in the jungle, and Canna is playing well in the top lane. However, T1 benefited greatly from HLE’s poor pick and bans last week, and DWG KIA won’t make the same mistakes. That should lead to a comfortable win for DWG KIA as long as Khan and BeryL don’t see too steep of a downturn in their play.

Gen. G +166

EDward Gaming -226

LPL Summer Split champions EDward Gaming have now had their most successful Worlds appearance ever. They are in the semifinals for the first time, and they have to like their chances of advancing to the finals. EDG survived a five-game slugfest with Royal Never Give Up in the quarterfinals, but Gen. G have a much better mid laner in BDD.

BDD has just a 4.5 KDA, but he has been playing great at Worlds. He leads the team in total damage, and he has emerged as another consistent win condition alongside Ruler. The world champion bottom laner is not as elite as he was a few years ago, but he is still one of the best at his position.

Ruler will be facing the best bottom laner in the world though in Viper. He has thrived with EDG, but he was often caught out of position in the quarterfinals last week. It was an uncharacteristically messy performance, but he should fare much better this week.

The key to this game will be in the top lane. Flandre has only played Graves and Jayce, and while he leads the team in damage, he has had a lot of issues with his positioning. Gen. G can pinch his champion pool, and they can make this an all-Korean finals for the first time since 2017.
