2021 LOL World Championship Group Stage Betting

The first round robin of the League of Legends World Championship is over. Western teams have done poorly with European teams and North American teams each going 2-7, and none of those six teams are currently positioned to advance to the knockout stages. Meanwhile, Chinese and Korean teams are in position to take seven of the eight spots in the quarterfinals, potentially leading to Worlds becoming very regional next week.

2021 League of Legends World Championship Group Stage Betting Odds

October 15, 2021 – Group A

DWG KIA -153

FunPlus Phoenix +115

The defending world champions have shown their class through their first three games of Worlds. DWG KIA bested FunPlus Phoenix, Cloud9, and Rogue this week, and star mid laner ShowMaker has yet to suffer a death. The only member of this team that isn’t performing well is Ghost, so they could be just the second team ever to repeat as champions. FunPlus Phoenix might be worth a play at this price though, as FPX were the overall tournament favorites last week.

Cloud9 +120

Rogue -160

The loser of this game is essentially eliminated from Worlds at this point. Cloud9 and Rogue both have their backs against the wall, but Rogue have looked better in the Group of Death. They have done a better job with drafting too, so they should be able to knock off C9.

October 16, 2021 – Group B

T1 +111

Edward Gaming -147

These two teams are expected to get out of Group B. Edward Gaming won the first meeting between these sides, but T1 has the talent to win the rematch. T1 has found its form, and the Korean teams have looked better than expected to this point.

Detonation FocusMe +217

100 Thieves -308

It will take a minor miracle for either 100 Thieves or Detonation FocusMe to make the knockout rounds. They just don’t have the same talent a T1 or Edward Gaming, and there is a massive gap in the bottom lane between the top two teams and the bottom two teams. 100 Thieves shouldn’t be this much of a favorite though, so DFM are the pick at this price.

October 17, 2021 – Group C

Royal Never Give Up -228

PSG Talon +167

Although Royal Never Give Up are 3-0, they struggled to put away both PSG Talon and Hanwha Life. Maple played very well on Tryndamere in the first match between these teams, and Talon can take away RNG’s best winning condition in top laner Xiaohu. That gives them a chance to pull off the upset and potentially grab first place in the group.

Fnatic +199

Hanwha Life Esports -277

Poor Fnatic. They were my favorite underdog to watch in the Group Stage, but the team suffered a big blow just before the start of the Group Stage. Bottom laner Upset had to leave the team due to a family emergency, and replacement Bean just hasn’t had the same impact. That makes it hard to back Fnatic at any price.

October 18, 2021 – Group D

MAD Lions +115

Gen.G -153

If there is one European team that will come through in the second round robin, its MAD Lions. They have not played poorly in either of their two defeats, and they were able to knock off Gen.G in their first game. Better drafts would do this team well, as Gnar top lane is no longer viable.

LNG Esports -182

Team Liquid +135

The North American team to have faith in is Team Liquid. Liquid have the most manageable group, and they showed they can hang with the other teams in this group. LNG Esports have an elite jungler in Tarzan, but the bottom lane isn’t that great and Icon can be mitigated by Jensen in the mid lane.
