2021 LCS Lock In Day 1 Preview

The LCS likes to experiment, and we will see a new format in the Spring Split. Before the start of the official regular season, there will be a Lock In tournament that lasts two weeks. The ten teams were split into groups of five, and they will battle it out for a winner take all prize of $150,000. The top four teams in each group advance to the knockout rounds where we will see a single elimination knockout bracket.

2021 LCS Lock In Day 1 Betting Odds

Team SoloMid -132

100 Thieves +105

Long-time fans of Team SoloMid are about to see a completely different roster for the first time. Veteran mid laner Bjergsen retired and moved into a coaching role this offseason, and there will be four new starters in the lineup. PowerOfEvil will ensure TSM still has a strong presence in the mid lane, but every other position is a question mark. Suning’s success without support SwordArt has a few observers questioning how much of an impact he can make, and Huni is a huge wild card in the top lane.

There is a lot more synergy among the 100 Thieves lineup. Although they signed four new players this offseason, all four of those players were part of Golden Guardians. Ssumday is the lone holdover, and he remains one of the best top laners in the region. That makes 100 Thieves a solid play as a short underdog here.

Team Liquid -540

Counter Logic Gaming +364

No one is quite sure what we will see from CLG in this tournament. This organization finally spent some money after finishing in dead last in 2020, but they are dealing with a COVID outbreak. Additionally, top laner Finn and jungler Broxah will be unavailable for at least the first few games of this competition due to visa issues, leading to CLG having to pick up two replacements earlier this week.

Liquid are the biggest favorites of the first day, although they won’t have star jungler Santorin. He is having visa issues too, so the favorites to win the LCS Spring Split will have to replace him with Armao.

Cloud9 -321

Evil Geniuses +237

The most interesting team heading into this season is Cloud9. They brought over G2 superstar Perkz to be their mid laner, and they let go of perennial All-Star Licorice in order to have the promising Fudge finally start in the top lane. C9 are the biggest threat to Liquid, but they will have a new coach too as Reignover replaces Reapered.

Evil Geniuses are going to have a hard time beating C9 in Week 1, but this should be a competitive team. Impact is a reliable top laner, and Ignar is still one of the best playmakers at support in the region.

FlyQuest -271

Team Dignitas +205

Although they have an entirely new roster, there is a lot of promise with FlyQuest. Josedeodo can be a real difference maker in the jungle, and Licorice will have a chip on his shoulder. Palafox and Diamond are big question marks at mid lane and support though.

COVID has reportedly wreaked havoc on Dignitas too. Although we have yet to hear how many members of the team have been infected with the virus, Travis Gafford reported that multiple team members tested positive and are now quarantined. The academy roster is filled with veterans though, so Dignitas won’t be as affected as other teams.

Counter Logic Gaming -204

Golden Guardians +157

Golden Guardians were seen as the least talented team entering the 2021 season, but CLG’s issues make this team a nice bet as an underdog at this price.
