Chinese League of Legends fans around the world are hoping that the eighth time is a charm. Five teams from Korea, one team from Taiwan, and one team from Europe have won the previous seven League of Legends World Championships, but no Chinese team has ever won the Summoner’s Cup. Invictus Gaming are looking to change that and bring China its first title, but Fnatic are standing in their way. Fnatic were the lone EU team to win it all, claiming the first Summoner’s Cup back in 2011, and they are aiming to shock the world and win their second. Their odds to win the Summoner’s Cup were 25-1 in early October, and they are out to cash in as longshots.

2018 League of Legends World Championships Finals Betting Odds
Invictus Gaming -160
Fnatic +135
Let’s break this one down tale of the tape style by looking at all of the individual match-ups
Top Lane
TheShy is the best top laner in the world. Full Stop. In this meta, no one has been as dominant as TheShy, and he has styled on his opponents at Worlds. He was incredible during the Spring Split when pushing in the top lane was in the meta, but he took a step back in summer as different patches led to lots of different strategies. TheShy crushed veteran top laner Jankos in the semifinals, crushing the laning phase on Akali, Jayce, and Aatrox in sub-30 minute routs. Duke is the team’s substitute, but he is unlikely to play unless Invictus throw a curveball.
Fnatic don’t have a top laner that can hang with TheShy in terms of skill. They used Bwipo against Cloud9 last week, but he has largely been on carries at Worlds and it’s unlikely that Fnatic will trust him against TheShy. Instead, I expect them to use veteran Soaz and have him play tanks into TheShy and trust that he won’t use the lane too much.
Edge: Invictus Gaming
Jungle
Broxah has been amazing throughout the course of the year. He has a 9.1 KDA over all split and competitions in 2018, and no other jungler has a KDA that impressive. He isn’t just padding his stats either. Broxah has come through in the clutch with some incredible Baron steals that have pulled victory out of the jaws of defeat for Fnatic, and he has been the best jungler in Europe bar none.
Like other LPL junglers, Ning has largely been hit or miss. He has played a lot of carry champions to try to get Invictus ahead in the early game, but he has made some crucial mistakes and hasn’t been as sharp in the late game. That could be an issue if Invictus’ early game snowball stalls out.
Edge: Fnatic
Mid Lane
These are two of the best mid laners in the world. When Invictus and Fnatic met earlier in the competition, Caps decided to pick a more team focused champion to help Fnatic in the late game while Rookie tried to win his lane to carry Invictus to the win. Caps was able to lose the minimum despite the early game pressure, and that led to two Fnatic victories that gave them the group.
Look for similar decisions from both teams here. Rookie is the best mid laner in the world, and Invictus has won through him all year long. Caps is the top mid laner in Europe, and Fnatic has thrived with him stepping off of carry champions and onto more utility picks.
Edge: Even
Bottom Lane
More than any other matchup, this bottom lane matchup will likely decide the series. Fnatic’s Rekkles has been the team’s leader for years. He has been the best AD Carry in the West for the last three years, and he has turned it on at Worlds after not featuring during the Summer Split. He had a 21 KDA against Cloud9 in the semifinals, and he dominated like the Rekkles of old.
JackeyLove is going to be the next great AD Carry, the only question is when he figures it out. He is as mechanically gifted as any AD Carry outside of Uzi, but his positioning and questionable decisions in the late game have cost Invictus big time in the postseason. If he can outduel Rekkles, Invictus are likely going to be the first LPL team to raise the Summoner’s Cup.
Edge: Even
Prediction
This is going to be a close match-up, but in this meta I like Invictus to win 3-1. This meta is all about the early game and getting out to a lead, and Invictus do that better than anyone else.
