Odds Analysis

The San Antonio Spurs will hit the road on Friday for a matchup against the Washington Wizards. San Antonio has not been great away from home this season but has much more motivation as it aims to get ahead of the OKC Thunder for the No. 7 seed in the Western Conference and avoid the Warriors in the first round of the playoffs. San Antonio is listed as the 6-point favorite but that’s too high. In fact, the Wizards are an intriguing pick on the moneyline at +199.

The Indiana Pacers and Boston Celtics are neck and neck in a battle for the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs. They have a head-to-head matchup on Friday that could go a long way in determining which team finishes with the upper hand. The Pacers are the slight favorite but Boston is the choice to win this game, even on the road, at +100 on the moneyline.

The Orlando Magic need to keep winning down the stretch to make the Eastern Conference playoffs and are a solid favorite at home on Friday against the Atlanta Hawks. Orlando comes in as the 8.5-point favorite and even though that’s a pretty big spread, the Magic will play well enough to cover it against the hapless Hawks. For those worried about Atlanta pulling off a backdoor cover, a safer play would be Orlando at -420 odds on the moneyline, but it obviously wouldn’t pay out nearly as well.

The Portland Trail Blazers have pulled to within two games of the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference and could really put a scare into them by winning a head-to-head matchup on Friday evening. Portland is on the road so it won’t be an easy task. Denver has been dominant at home this year and has been listed as the 6.5-point favorite. The Blazers won’t have enough firepower to stay close as the Nuggets are the choice to cover that spread. The scoring total is listed at 216 points and the “over” is the clear pick as this one should have plenty of fast breaks.

The most intriguing opening line of Friday features the Miami Heat on the road against the Minnesota Timberwolves. When it comes to sense of urgency, Miami is clearly the one that will be trying the hardest as it is in a close battle to make it to the playoffs in the Eastern Conference.

Even though Minnesota isn’t going to make it to the postseason in the tougher West, the base talent level of these two teams is pretty even. The T-Wolves are at home, and it is a mild surprise the team is listed as an underdog in this showing. The oddsmakers’ questionable opening line is the bettors’ gain, as Minnesota is the clear choice at +115 odds to pull off the upset in NBA wagering.
