If you thought betting against teams like the Chicago White Sox and Colorado Rockies on a MLB parlay was a good strategy you’d be losing money. It was profitable up until a few weeks ago but those squads have starting winning games making me a loser on a few of my tickets. The Sox had won four in a row and six of eight before dropping the series finale to Cleveland on Sunday. They have 12 wins on the season but are 4-3 against the AL Central leading Guardians. The Sox look to continue their strong play against Washington with first pitch at 2:10 p.m. ET. The Rockies became the last team to hit double digit wins and closed the week as one of the hottest teams in MLB with a sweep of the defending champion Rangers giving them a season-best four game winning streak. The Rox close a three game set with a matinee in San Diego.

I struck out on last week’s parlay losing two of three picks. My only success was backing the Dodgers against the spread in their tilt with Miami. As a big favorite it made no sense to back LA on the moneyline so giving up 1.5 runs moved the odds in my favor. While the move paid off for that game it didn’t for my card, which was spoiled when Seattle lost to Minnesota. I was on the right path in the Baltimore-Washington game until Craig Kimbrel blew a 3-1 lead in the ninth and the teams combined for seven runs in extra innings. Backing the UNDER went from a winner to a loser in a matter minutes.
I’m going back to Baltimore backing the O’s in their matchup with Toronto. The Blue Jays lost for the seventh time in 10 games on Sunday and have underachieved while the O’s are right where they expected to be. They had won nine of 11 games before Sunday and are expected to start Cole Irvin, who boasts a 2.90 ERA in seven starts.
The new punching bag is Miami since the Marlins already threw in the towel. They stopped a five-game losing streak on Sunday, but more of those are likely and I don’t expect the Tigers are going to let up since they were in the same position just recently. Detroit skidded recently against tough opponents so anticipate they’ll relish the opportunity and come out ahead by more than one run in this home game.
The script has flipped, sort of. After years of beating up Oakland en route to AL West titles, the Astros find themselves in a battle to stay out of last place. We keep waiting for them to break out and it just hasn’t happened. The A’s meanwhile have surprised a lot of people, and while they aren’t playoff material they are competitive and they hit the long ball. Oakland has clubbed the fourth-most homers in MLB with a few shots against a shaky Astros staff proving the difference.

I missed my same game parlay last week so it’s time to get back in the win column. And is there a better game and rivalry than the Dodgers-Giants? The teams met in early April with LA sweeping three games and they’ve had the Giants number recently. And we should have a nice pitcher’s duel with Tyler Glasnow and Logan Webb expected to start. Those two have been money all season so backing the UNDER makes a lot of sense. And the Dodgers have found ways to beat the Giants both at home and on the road making them my pick on the moneyline.
