Playing MLB parlays is a lot more fun when you win. As we enter the second month of the 2024 season every team is on the diamond when the calendar flips to Wednesday, May 1. We’ve gotten what we expected from some teams. The Atlanta Braves own MLB’s best record at the start of the week with the Dodgers leading the NL West, though they haven’t been as dominant as most anticipated. And there have been some surprise teams through the first month of the season. Though they dropped two of three to the Braves over the weekend, the Cleveland Guardians boast the best record in the AL My same game parlay was a winner when I backed San Diego and the UNDER in the Padres 5-2 win over Colorado. I also correctly had two teams on my three-team parlay with the team formerly known as the Indians my only setback.

There are some good games on tap with an interleague tilt between teams entering the week leading their division the headliner. Winning nine of 11 games helped the Mariners overtake Texas in the AL West with solid pitching a major contributor. During that span the staff allowed two runs or fewer eight times with Emerson Hancock giving up four runs in 18 innings over his last three starts. The Braves boast a potent offense, but as they say good pitching stops good hitting. That’s why I’m backing the M’s at home.
Once again the Angels have one of the most philanthropic pitching staffs in baseball. It doesn’t seem to matter who throws on the uniform they suddenly can’t get opponents out. Patrick Sandoval is expected to start for the Halos with his 6.33 ERA and 1.78 WHIP going against a Phillies unit that has a .253 average and the fifth most home runs in the Majors. I originally wasn’t going to back the OVER but I realized the Phils could eclipse the number on their own.
The top teams in the AL East square off for the first time this season and it should be a doozy. The O’s might kick themselves later on after dropping two of three at home to the A’s over the weekend. They may have been looking forward to this series as well. Not much separates the division foes, however the O’s have ace Corbin Burnes on the bump and they’re playing at home so advantage Baltimore.

I hit my same game parlay last week in a matchup between NL West clubs so why not stick with a winning formula. I backed the Padres outright and the UNDER in their matchup with the Rockies in Denver. You never know what’s going to happen in the thin air but this one worked out. San Diego won 5-2 going below the total of 10.5. This week it’s the Dodgers and Dbacks meeting for the first time since last postseason. You may recall the snakes swept LA in the LDS after finishing the regular season 16 games behind. Not that LA is out for payback, but LA is out for payback. Winning a game in May isn’t the same, but the Dodgers need a good series to erase the stench of their latest failure. And the teams have played some high scoring games in the desert in the past so I’m leaning toward the OVER.
