MLB Odds - Boston Red Sox at Houston Astros MLB Game Preview

It’s only May, but forgive those for thinking we are already staring at a matchup from October. The Boston Red Sox and Houston Astros will face off in a titanic American League showdown of contenders on Saturday. These two teams are widely expected to again qualify for the playoffs and it would shock no one if they eventually faced off with a World Series berth on the line.

Each side is looking for an early leg up in the head-to-head series standings. The Astros have been the better team this year and get this game at home, but the Red Sox seem to have the starting pitching advantage, which could make this a competitive matchup in MLB gambling.

This MLB game between the Boston Red Sox and Houston Astros will be held at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas at 7:15 p.m. ET on Saturday, May 25th, 2019. The game will be nationally televised on FOX.

Odds Analysis

The Red Sox have a 25-23 record on the season and sit in third place in the American League East. While that is certainly worse than most people predicted, there is plenty of time left in the season for this talented group to make a run. Boston is 12-13 on the road this season and will aim to pick up a crucial win in this one.

The Astros have been dominant all year with a record of 33-16. They have already jumped out ahead of the other teams in their division by eight games and should cruise to the A.L. West title. Houston has bigger goals than that and would love to finish with the best record in the majors. The Astros are 18-4 at home this season and will be the team to beat in this one in MLB odds.

Probable Pitchers

The Red Sox are projected to send talented left-hander David Price to the mound. He is 2-2 with a 3.29 ERA on the season. Price recently spent time on the disabled list and threw only five innings in his first start back, so he may not go too deep in this one. However, Price didn’t give up an earned run in that win over the Blue Jays and is one of the few pitchers with the ability to quiet this dominant Astros offense.

Houston will counter with right-hander Brad Peacock. He is 5-2 on the season with a 3.59 ERA and has been great lately. Peacock has given up only one combined run in his past three starts and will look to keep up that momentum. The task is much harder against Boston as it boasts some of the best hitters in the major leagues.

Injury Update

Houston star second baseman Jose Altuve has been out since May 10 due to a left hamstring strain and won’t play in this one. He is batting .243 with nine homers and 21 RBIs on the year but is perennially a .300 hitter who has dynamic speed to boot.

Even without a potential MVP candidate in the lineup, the Astros are so talented that it hasn’t mattered. Carlos Correa, George Springer, Michael Brantley and others still make this a frightening group.

Free MLB ATS Picks

Don’t let the Red Sox’s record fool you. This team is still a great one. However, Houston is even better. If Peacock is inconsistent Boston will have a chance, but he has shown no signs of that lately. The Astros are the pick to win this game, although it could come down to some late-inning heroics in MLB wagering.

MLB Pick: Houston Astros 6, Boston Red Sox 5
