MLB Betting Odds – 2020 Seattle Mariners Win Total

Although they have had their moments the fact remains that the Seattle Mariners have never won a pennant since their inaugural season in 1977. Seattle has not made the playoffs since 2001 and has flopped when touted as a favorite. In both 2017 and 2019 the Mariners were picked as a contender based on surprise campaigns the year before. Instead Seattle proved to lack the quality depth and roster to be nothing but a pretender and tease. Seattle has posted only three winning seasons since 2010 and was one of the biggest money lasers on the board for 2019. Most important of all Seattle has turned a significant betting profit just once since 2009. And that is not expected to change for 2020.

2020 Seattle Mariners Win Total Odds Overview

Gamblers have simply been burned too many times by the Mariners to step out with them on the come, especially after last year’s 68-94 mark. Seattle will open the 2020 season with a payroll ranked only 23rd in Major League Baseball. In the American League West, the perennial power Houston Astros may be in turmoil, but still have a loaded and deep roster. The Oakland A’s are coming off back to back playoff seasons and the Los Angeles Angels are revitalized with new manager Joe Maddon. Even the Texas Rangers should be improved for their new ball park. All of that does not bode well for Seattle.

Manager Scott Servais

Scott Servais has run the Mariners dugout since 2016 and has posted two surprise winning seasons. The problem is that he was not able to sustain that success in the following seasons when the spotlight was on his team.

On the Hill

Last year Seattle ranked 23rd in Major League Baseball for staff earned run average and 22nd for quality starts. The bullpen ranked 22nd in MLB.

Number one starter Marco Gonzales was one of the few bright spots for the Mariners in 2019 with a record of 16-13 and 3.99 earned run average. It was the second straight year of reliable starts from Gonzales.

Second starter Yusei Kikuchi had a rough rookie season for the M’s last season with a record of 6-11 and a 5.46 earned run average and WHIP of 1.52. Seattle needs much more out of the number two starting slot.

The closer role has yet to be determined with Matt Magill, Yoshihisa Hirano, and Samuel Tuivailala in the conversation to begin spring training.

At the Plate

Run production was another weak spot for the Mariners in 2019 with rankings of 20th for runs scored, 29th for batting average and 20th for OPS. Seattle sorely lacks a dominant hitter that opposing pitchers fear and that mediocre lineup does not figure to be an asset to getting over the win total.

Third baseman Kyle Seager will bat third despite the fact that he hit only .239 last year with an OPS of .789. Having a third-place hitter with such numbers is quite a tell about the misery likely to come for 2020. Seager had 19 doubles with 23 home runs in 106 games. Of great concerns is that he has had noticeably declining production for the past three years.

Catcher and cleanup man Tom Murphy managed 18 home runs in 75 games with a .535 slugging percentage and .858 OPS for 2019 as Seattle will bet a lot on him in his first full season this year.

2020 Seattle Mariners Win Total MLB Betting Odds Pick

There is just nothing here to believe in as far as quality players that can sustain success, especially in a division with four teams that are clearly better.

2020 Seattle Mariners MLB Betting Odds Prediction: Under the total of 67.5.
