MLB Betting Odds – 2020 Miami Marlins Win Total

The Miami Marlins begin with the lowest payroll in all of Major League Baseball pared with the worst fan support. Marlins Park was supposed to solve the problem but planners ignored one obvious fact; Miami is the ultimate front runners’ town and if a team doesn’t win, they stand no chance for fan support. And few teams have been more abysmal in the Big Leagues than the Marlins. Miami’s last winning season was in 2009 and they have not made the playoff since their 2003 ambush of the entire crowd for an accidental World Series title helped in large part by a Cubs fan named Steve Bartman, who interfered with what should have been a foul ball out in a playoff game that would have eliminated the Marlins. Miami has drawn under 812,000 fans the past two years and there is no sign of any improvement on the horizon either on the diamond or at the box office for 2020.

2020 Miami Marlins Win Total Odds Overview

Miami will languish in the National League East with a disproportionate amount of games against the two-time defending division champion and favorite Atlanta Braves, the defending World Series champion Washington Nationals, the up and coming contender New York Mets, and a potentially strong bounce back team in the Philadelphia Phillies. With no money to sign for free agent help or to keep good talent on hand, the Marlins are doomed before the first pitch on Opening Day. Miami is coming off a 57-105 season and will say that the worst days of their rebuild are behind them. Gamblers are not so sure. In fact, most experts see no light at the end of the tunnel for the Marlins.

On the Hill

Although the Marlins ranked 20th in the Major Leagues for staff earned run average they did rank a surprising 13th for quality starts. However, the Marlins ranked 26th for bullpen last year.

Projected number one starter Sandy Alcantara was just 6-14 in 2019, but with an impressive 3.88 earned run average and WHIP of 1.32. The won/loss record is the obvious price of being on such a horrible team. In fact, Alcantara was s 2019 NL All-Star. He remains the crown jewel on which the staff rebuild will revolve around.

Caleb Smith is expected to be the number two starter and is a left hander that went 10-11 with a 4.52 earned run average in 2019. Smith struck out 168 batters in 153.1 innings of work and posted a 1.23 WHIP.

At the Plate

For 2019 Miami ranked a pathetic 29th for runs scored 30th for OPS, and 30th for home runs. It remains a lineup that sparks little if any fear into opponents.

First baseman Jesus Aguilar was a 2018 NL All-Star when a member of the Milwaukee Brewers and does offer the potential of hitting 35 home runs as he did that season for the Brew Crew.

Left fielder Corey Dickerson was a 2017 AL All-Star for the Tampa Bay Rays and a 2018 Gold Glove winner for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Dickerson arrives from the Philadelphia Phillies where last year he was limited to just 34 games played. But in 2018 he hit .300 with an OPS of .804.

Right fielder Brian Anderson is perhaps the best Marlin bat and compiled 33 doubles, 20 home runs with an .811 OPS last year.

There just isn’t anything to go with here and when you add in the difficulty of the National League East, finding 64.5 wins is a chore. It’s another lost season in Miami.
