Milwaukee Brewers at San Diego Padres MLB Betting

NL heavyweights will pick their three-game series back up on the sunny west coast Tuesday night when Corbin Burnes leads the Milwaukee Brewers up against Blake Snell and the San Diego Padres. Much will be on the line with both squads currently in the thick of their respective division chases as well as being a pair of perceived favorites to win the National League pennant at online sportsbooks. The Friars will be looking to put their best foot forward after getting dominated by the Brew Crew a season ago in dropping five of the seven overall meetings. Another showing like that could make it extremely tough to snag a wild card slot provided it doesn’t find a way to outlast the Dodgers in the division race. This will however only be Blake Snell’s second start since returning from the IL in the middle of last week. That likely means SD’s wretched bullpen will play a large role in this matchup, and I’m not a fan of that prospect one single bit.

First pitch for the NL non-divisional tilt between the Milwaukee Brewers and San Diego Padres scheduled for Tuesday, May 24, 2022. Take it in live on TBS at 9:40 p.m. ET from Petco Park. Bet on MLB odds and player props at BookMaker.eu every day of the season.

Odds Analysis

My 16-1 and 6-1 tickets for the Brewers to win the World Series and NL pennant are looking pretty good as we enter the back half of May. Craig Counsell’s troops have played to a 23-14 overall record that’s allowed for them to hold a 2.5-game lead over the St. Louis Cardinals atop the NL Central standings. Though it’s only amounted to $117 in overall profit for MLB bettors, it’s still logged a winning 12-9 record when playing away from the comfy confines of Miller Park. That being said, it’s only managed one series win in its last three road treks. You can’t help but like what you’re seeing from the Friars sans Fernando Tatis Jr. with the club just 1-game out of first place. However, San Diego has inexplicably had a tougher time winning at home 10-7, $74 than it has when taking the show on the road 13-6, $513. Regardless, it’s all amounted to nearly $600 in baseball betting profit for its wagering supporters.

Probable Pitchers

Corbin Burnes R: The reigning NL Cy Young Award winner has continued to be a horse atop the Brewers starting rotation. Unfortunately, his 1.77 ERA, 0.79 WHIP, and .176 batting average against has only amounted to a 1-2 overall record mostly due to the offense giving him an average of just 2.6 runs of support to work with. Provided he continues to allow just 5.5 hits per nine innings and his FIP remains sub-3.00, positive regression is heading his way in the W/L department. The righty has been at his absolute best both on the road and in night games which is the exact parameters of his eighth start. He’s the owner of a 1.07 ERA and .171 BAA with his WHIP clocking in at 0.71 at night. He’s also allowed just eight hits and 5 ER with a 20:3 K/BB ratio over four career starts against the Padres. He’s yet to concede a single earned run in eight career innings pitched at Petco while logging 13 K. Yes, Corbin’s K prop is in play!

Blake Snell L: This will be the left-handers second start of the season after making his debut in Philadelphia last Wednesday. The Blake Snell experiment in SD hasn’t gone as planned. He battled injuries and ineffectiveness throughout his first full season with the Padres. It amounted to a 7-6 record, 4.20 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, and a noticeable decline in his K/BB ratio 2.46. He’s said to be fully recovered from the groin injury that saw him get scratched in what was supposed to be his 2022 debut the opening weekend of the season. He couldn’t have asked for a better opponent to run up against early on with Milwaukee just 4-8 and averaging 2.4 runs per game against south paws No. 27. That being said, it remains to be seen how long a leash he’ll have with this only his second start of the year. As such, the Friars No. 22 ranked bullpen will have a large say in how this matchup ultimately plays out.

Brewers vs. Padres Prediction

With Adrian Houser toeing the bump against Mike Clevinger in the series opener, it’s highly possible Milwaukee will be down in the series heading into this matchup. Even if they got out to the 1-0 series lead the night prior, I’d still be backing Burnes in this matchup that will likely see Christian Yelich and Co. taking a bunch of hacks against the Padres maligned bullpen. Though Burnes is likely to be installed mid-range road chalk, I fully expect him to outduel Snell and help lead the Brew Crew to a solid road win. Gimme the Brewers for the first five and full game!
