San Diego Padres 2025 MLB Betting Lines
As the 2025 All-Star break approaches, the San Diego Padres are in the thick of the National League Wild Card race. The Padres are in a good position to make the playoffs for the second consecutive year and for the fourth time in the past six campaigns. Unlike San Diego teams of the past, the Padres are now near the Top 10 in payroll and have the depth and ability they once lacked. Another big difference maker is manager Mike Shildt. In his first season at the helm, Shildt led them to 93 wins and the NLDS. That was the highest win total for San Diego since 1998. Previously, when the San Diego Padres made the playoffs in the 2020 COVID-shortened season, gamblers and media got caught up in the excitement. San Diego ownership began to spend freely, and for the first time in franchise history, the Padres seemed serious about the player-salary arms race. However, the Padres never quite met expectations. In 2022, they went 89-73 and lost the NLCS. And then, in 2023, San Diego fell to 82-20 and out of the playoff money. Most problematic for the Padres is sharing a division with the Los Angeles Dodgers juggernaut. Still, this is the best era of Padres baseball since the late 1990s.
