The Wanderers are back in the Premier League for the first time in six years. Throughout most of their history, the club has been in the top flight of English football, but Wolverhampton’s fortunes have waxed and waned since the founding of the Premier League. Last season was a smashing success for Wolverhampton. The Wanderers were able to top the Championship with 99 points in order to ascend to the top league in English football once more. They were virtually untouchable at home, losing just twice all year, and they picked up a result in 18 of 23 road tilts too.
Wolverhampton’s leading scorer last season was Diogo Jota, who finished with 17 goals in 43 games. Jota was on loan from Atletico Madrid, so acquiring him this offseason was a priority. The team was able to acquire him permanently, and they are excited about the 21-year-old’s potential. Leo Bonatini is another one to watch. He was able to find the back of the net 12 times on the season, and the Wanderers acquired him from Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia. Finally, the club hopes to have shored up its defense with the addition of center back Willy Boly from Porto.
