2022 Australian Open Women’s Tennis Betting

World No. 1 Ashleigh Barty is listed as the favorite to win the 2022 Australian Open on the women’s side. Defending champion Naomi Osaka is listed as the second choice while everyone else is listed at double-digit odds. Osaka has not played a lot during the last year and her world ranking has dropped to No. 14 and because of that, she has a difficult path to the final, including a potential fourth round meeting against Barty. We already know that either Barty or Osaka will not be around for the quarterfinals. Let’s look at 2022 Australian Open odds and predictions.

Favorite

Ashleigh Barty is a solid favorite at odds of +240. She is ranked No. 1 in the world and she got her first major win last season at Wimbledon. The pressure is on Barty, as she is Australian and it is never easy to win when all the pressure is on you. Barty has the serve to cause other players trouble and there is no denying she has the talent to win. The only concern is that she has to get past Osaka to make the quarterfinals.

Top Contender

Naomi Osaka is the second choice in the betting odds at +650. She has won two of the last three Australian Opens and there could be some value on her at this price. She thrives on hard courts and when she is in rhythm, she is very hard to stop. She had to pull out of a tournament in Melbourne with an abdominal strain, but she is supposedly ready to go for the Australian Open.

Live Longshots

You can make a legitimate case for as many as 10 other players to win the 2022 Australian Open. It is not hard to see Garbine Muguruza making a deep run and winning this event. The same could be said for Iga Swiatek, Simona Halep, Barbora Krejcikova, Anett Kontaveit, Paula Badosa, Elena Rybakina, Aryna Sabalenka, Cori Gauff and Victoria Azarenka.

If you look at the draw you have to give Swiatek a chance. She made the Round of 16 at Melbourne the past two years and she comes in playing well. She wouldn’t have to face a seeded player until the third round and then it would be No. 25 Daria Kasatkina. Her Round of 16 matchup would be potentially Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova or Petra Kvitova. If you want a big longshot then Belinda Bencic is worth considering. She is listed at odds of +6500. She loves playing on hard courts and four of her five titles have come on hard courts. We know that she can beat Osaka and that makes her a dangerous player.

Australian Open Predictions

It is not hard to make a case for a number of players winning the 2022 Australian Open. Barty is the favorite and the World No. 1 but do you really want to take her at odds of less than 3-1? I don’t like betting favorites unless they are a really strong choice to win and I don’t know that Barty fits that criterion. Osaka has some value at her current odds but I am not thrilled about her draw and I wonder about the injury she suffered in her last tournament. I’ll take Garbine Muguruza and Simona Halep as my top two picks. For a value pick I will take Aryna Sabalenka. I also want to mention one line move pick. The odds on Barbora Krejcikova have dropped to +1400 so I will also take her simply because the wise guys seem to be backing her.
