2021 Australian Open Men’s Tennis Betting

The 2021 Australian Open is supposed to begin on Monday, February 8 but there are COVID-19 concerns and whether or not matches start on time is definitely in question. What is not in question is that Novak Djokovic is the clear favorite to win the first Grand Slam event of the year. Djokovic has dominated this event, winning it eight times, including each of the last two years. Djokovic is listed as the 6-5 favorite in Australian Open odds and then there are three other contenders, Daniil Medvedev, Rafael Nadal and Dominic Thiem who are listed at odds of 5-1. Everyone else in the field is listed at double-digit odds. Let’s look at the 2021 Australian Open, Australian Open odds and Australian Open picks.

Australian Open Tennis Betting Odds

Novak Djokovic 6-5

Daniil Medvedev 5-1

Rafael Nadal 5-1

Dominic Thiem 5-1

Roberto Bautista Agut 80-1

Matteo Berrettini 85-1

All other players are listed with odds of 100-1 or more or they are part of the field.

Favorite

Novak Djokovic 6-5

The top player in the world and the favorite to win the Australian Open is Djokovic. He has won 17 Grand Slam titles, including eight Australian Open titles. It is hard to make a case against Djokovic considering he has won seven of the last 10 Australian Open titles. There is not much value in Djokovic at odds of 6-5, but you go against him at your own peril.

Other Contenders

Daniil Medvedev 5-1

Medvedev is ranked No. 4 in the world and has yet to win a Grand Slam title, but he is just 24 years old. He won the ATP Finals last year and would seem to be on the edge of a major breakthrough. He could be the player who can challenge Djokovic in this year’s Australian Open. If you are going to take one of the players listed at odds of 5-1 then Medvedev could be the best choice.

Rafael Nadal 5-1

Nadal is ranked No. 1 in the world and he has won 20 Grand Slam titles in his career, but he has won the Australian Open just once and that was back in 2009. Nadal seems healthy for this year’s Australian Open, but there is no question he is a notch below Djokovic in this tournament.

Dominic Thiem 5-1

Thiem is ranked third in the world, but he played really well in this event a year ago, making it to the final and giving Djokovic a good battle. Thiem won the U.S. Open title last year, so he got that monkey off his back and he has proven he can play well on hard courts.

Longshots

It is hard to make a case for anyone else which is why even those players at odds of 14-1 are longshots. Perhaps you can take a flyer on Stefanos Tsitsipas who is just 22 years old. He is ranked No. 6 in the world and he did make the semifinals of this tournament two years ago. He should get some solid crowd support in Melbourne and he looks to be the best of the longshots at odds of 14-1. If you want a bigger longshot then Milos Raonic could be worth a look. He is still just 30 years old and ranked No. 15 in the world. He has played well in the Australian Open in the past with a record of 31-10 in his matches. He has struggled with injuries over the past few years, but he looks healthy and he played well to end 2020. He could be worth a flyer at odds of 50-1.

Australian Open Picks

It is really a matter of whether you want to take Djokovic at odds of 6-5 or roll the dice. I can’t argue with taking Djokovic, but there could be a little value in taking Medvedev at odds of 5-1.
