2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup Betting Odds

Group runners-up Norway and Australia will meet in the second Round of 16 match on Saturday with the winner taking on the winner of England and Cameroon in Le Havre on June 27. Australia are a slight favorite in this match somewhat due to expectations before the tournament started, but Norway boast one of the richest traditions of any team at this competition.

Don't miss this Women’s World Cup match from the Allianz Riviera in Nice, France at 3 p.m. ET on Saturday, June 22, 2019. Catch every moment of the match live on FOX.

Odds Analysis

Norway advanced to the knockout rounds of the World Cup after finishing in second place in Group A. They had no problem against Nigeria in their first match, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first half and holding it the rest of the way. France were a much tougher foe, but the Grasshoppers fought hard and nearly earned a result. Norway had more possession than the hosts, but a penalty kick gave France the win.

That meant Norway needed a win over South Korea in their final Group Stage match to lock up second place in the group. Penalty kicks within the first five minutes of both halves gave Norway a 2-0 win and they looked set to salt the game away from there. However, South Korea roared back in the final 20 minutes and nearly grabbed a result but Norway held on to win 2-1.

Australia were favored to win Group C, but the Matildas were stunned in their very first game and spent the rest of the group stage playing catch-up. They seemed assured of a result against Italy, but a Barbara Bonansea goal in the fifth minute of extra time led to the Italians snagging at the death.

They seemed to be in real trouble after falling behind 2-0 against Brazil, but that’s when they began to right the ship. Australia rallied with three goals in the span of 22 minutes to beat Brazil 3-2 and put themselves in position to advance with a win over Jamaica. In that game, Sam Kerr took over and put four past the Reggae Girlz in a 4-1 win.

Australia Player to Watch

Kerr has five goals at this World Cup, and she is dangerous every time she gets the ball. She has a strong aerial game, and the Matildas’ captain can strike from anywhere on the field too. Kerr is the NWSL’s all-time leading scorer, and she is almost certainly going to end up as the leading scorer in Australia’s history.

Norway Player to Watch

Isabell Herlovsen has been the No. 9 Norway has needed her to be in their system. She isn’t the most talented Norwegian forward, but she has a great nose for goal and her understanding of where to be makes Norway a live dog against Australia in this match. Herlovsken is the top goal scorer on this team.

These teams met in a barnburner at the 2018 Algarve Cup in Portugal. There were a ton of goals, and Australia ended up prevailing 4-3 after a winner from Larissa Crummer in the fifth minute of extra time.

I like Norway’s chances this time. They have been playing better defensively, and they won’t allow Australia to have a lot of great chances in this match. Kerr will get a goal, but Norway will succeed on the counter and advance.

2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup Odds: Norway 2, Australia 1
