2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup Betting Odds

The Reggae Girlz knew that their World Cup debut would be rough, but they are still holding out hope they can earn a result or at least notch a goal. They will have arguably their best chance to do so on Friday when they face Italy. Although the Italians won their first match, they are still largely seen as the third-most talented team in the group. However, a win for Italy would put them in the driver’s seat to win Group C.

Don't miss this Women’s World Cup match from Stade Auguste-Delaune in Reims, France at 12 p.m. ET on Friday, June 14, 2019. Catch every moment of the match live on FOX.

Odds Analysis

Jamaica were unable to hold at the back in their first match against Brazil. They allowed Cristiane to net a hat trick in a 3-0 loss in their World Cup debut, but it wasn’t all bad news despite the disappointing result.

Those who thought the Reggae Girlz would be run over by the Selecao were wrong. Brazil did not dominate possession against Jamaica, and the Jamaicans had their fair share of chances. Khadija Shaw tested Brazil’s goalkeeper twice, and if Jamaica does score in France, it will likely be by her doing.

Italy are making the most of their first World Cup appearance in 20 years. They looked sharp in their 2-1 win over favored Australia in their opener, overcoming a 1-0 halftime deficit with strong play in the second half.

Barbara Bonansea was the hero for Italy. She was phenomenal throughout her time on the pitch, and she netted in the 56th minute to tie the score and again in extra time to give the Italians three points. Bonansea almost gave Italy the lead early too, netting inside of nine minutes before she was ruled just offside after VAR.

Italy Player to Watch

Like the men’s team, Italy are known primarily for their defense. They have allowed more than one goal in a match just once in the last 18 months, and captain Sara Gama is a big reason for that. Gama has a chance to notch her 100th appearance for the national team at this World Cup. The center back has been getting the job done since her first cap back in 2007, but she has to be somewhat careful here. Gama picked up a yellow card against Australia, so another would earn her a suspension.

Jamaica Player to Watch

Shaw is the best player on Jamaica by a significant margin, and if they manage to get a result, she will likely play a huge part. She has already had a successful time in France even though she hasn’t netted a goal. Last week, Shaw signed for Division 1 Feminine team Bordeaux, and that will give her the opportunity to play in the top women’s soccer league in the world. Shaw has scored 31 goals in 24 appearances with the Reggae Girlz, and the player they call Bunny is dangerous any time the ball is at her feet.

It’s hard to expect Jamaica to earn a result, but I think the Reggae Girlz will get the goal they are craving. Shaw will be the one to score it, and that will lead to exuberant celebrations among the fans in attendance. However, Italy will secure a win by multiple goals and earn the three points they need to lock up a spot in the knockout rounds.

2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup Odds: Italy 3, Jamaica 1
