2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup Betting Odds – England vs. Norway Match Preview

For the fourth straight tournament, England have made it to the Women’s World Cup Quarterfinals. The Three Lionesses have not really been challenged thus far at the World Cup, and they have looked like one of the favorites to win it all. However, they are on the more difficult side of the bracket, and they will have a tough test in their bid to return to the semifinals on Tuesday. Norway have appeared much stronger than most believed before the start of the World Cup.

Don't miss this Women’s World Cup match from the Stade Oceane in Le Havre, England at 3 p.m. ET on Thursday, June 27, 2019. Catch every moment of the match live on FOX.

Odds Analysis

Norway showed they were a dangerous team during the Group Stage. The Grasshoppers had no trouble getting past Nigeria in their first match, and they jumped on South Korea early on their way to a 2-1 win. This team even gave hosts France (one of the pre-tournament favorites) a pretty good game, falling 2-1 late in the second half.

The Norwegians were underdogs going into their Round of 16 match with Australia. They struck first after a lovely ball from Karina Saevik set up Isabell Herlovsen with just the keeper to beat midway through the first half, but they allowed a goal late in the second to send the match to extra time. A dubious red card for Australia led to a lot of chances for Norway, yet they were unable to convert, putting the game in penalties. There, Norway converted all their chances to advance to the quarters.

The Three Lionesses didn’t have any troubles in the group stage. They didn’t win overwhelmingly, but they beat Scotland, Argentina, and Japan to top a group that was supposed to be tricky.

We finally saw a dominant performance from England against Cameroon on Sunday though. The Three Lionesses beat Cameroon 3-0 in the most physical game in the Round of 16. Cameroon deserved at least one red card, and probably two, after some reckless challenges and straight up dirty plays, and England did well to keep their cool. That being said, England’s back line did show some weaknesses that a team like Norway could exploit.

Norway Player to Watch

Caroline Graham Hansen is the engine that makes Norway go. She has been named Player of the Match in Norway’s last two victories, and Hansen nearly provided the game-winner against Australia. The star midfielder took a beautiful bending shot from just outside the box that bounced off the framework right at the death of regulation. It was a stunning effort, reminding everyone of Hansen’s world-class talent. If they are to pull off the upset, Hansen will likely set up a goal or two.

England Player to Watch

Nikita Parris scored England’s first goal at this World Cup, but she has yet to get back on the scoresheet since that tally. Parris has created plenty of great opportunities though, and she has opened things up for her teammates. The star forward was the recipient of a vicious elbow early against Cameroon, but she continued to battle and finished the game with a great work rate. Parris was announced as one of Olympique Lyon’s latest additions last week, and the French crowd will likely cheer her on.

This is a tough one. I believe Norway could beat a team like Germany or the Netherlands, but I don’t think they have the firepower to get past England. The Three Lionesses will score at least twice, and that should be enough to advance.

2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup Odds: England 2, Norway 1
