It hasn’t been a great trip to America for Manchester United. In fact, it’s been a pretty frustrating affair for manager Jose Mourinho. The Red Devils beat AC Milan in their first match in a thrilling penalty shootout. The two clubs went to an incredible 13 round of penalties before a winner was decided, and Manchester United were able to emerge with a 9-8 win. However, United were hammered by Liverpool 4-1 on Saturday, with the club’s defense continually run ragged by the Reds. Liverpool were able to earn two penalties because of fouls in the box, and they knocked in both in the rout.

To add injury to insult, Manchester United has had a ton of bad luck since coming over. Antonio Valencia picked up a calf injury last week and is expected to miss the start of the season. Eric Bailly and Ander Herrera were injured in two subsequent matches as well. Additionally, Marcos Rojo, Diogo Dalot, Sergio Romero, Luke Shaw, and Chris Smalling have picked up knocks and have been either scratched or limited during their time in the states. The biggest concern is probably Nemanja Matic though, who just underwent abdominal surgery. It’s going to be a rough start to the season for Mourinho and Manchester United.

Real Madrid have yet to play a match, but they made a lot of their fans happy when they announced the roster that was coming to America. The list doesn’t lack star power with Gareth Bale, Isco, Karim Benzema, Toni Kroos, Oscar, Dani Carvajal, Sergio Ramos, Marco Asensio, and Klaus Navas looking to figure into the match-up.

Manchester United Player to Watch

You have to wonder if Alexis Sanchez is nervous about whether or not he will be the next player to succumb to the injury bug. Sanchez is Manchester United’s most high-profile player taking part in the ICC, and he has had his work cut out for him. He is the one veteran in a roster that includes a lot of reserves and youth players. That has been frustrating at times, and Mourinho has noted that.

Real Madrid Player to Watch

With Cristiano Ronaldo off to Juventus, the big question that Real Madrid must answer this season is where the goals will come from. Gareth Bale and Isco are the two front-runners to replace him in terms of production, as they were second and third on the team in goals last season. Both have been waiting for their chances to shine, and each will be looking to seize the moment. Bale and Isco should both be full-time starters this year, and no longer have to jockey for position in the starting eleven.

It feels like Real Madrid might be able to run it up a bit here. Most of their full contingent is here in the United States, while Manchester United are playing with a cobbled together side at this point. Expect a big win from Los Galacticos.

International Champions Cup Odds: Real Madrid 4, Manchester United 1
