NHL Thursday, March 9 Parlay Picks

Unfortunately, I missed my NHL Parlay Pick on Saturday afternoon. The Boston Bruins were able to take care of business against the New York Rangers even though the Rangers just added Patrick Kane, but the Tampa Bay Lightning continued to disappoint bettors. Tampa Bay lost 5-3 to Buffalo as the defense let down the Lightning once more. The Lightning have now lost five straight games, allowing 27 goals in those games. That has led to the Stanley Cup betting odds on the Lightning nearly doubling from 12-1 to 20-1 as Tampa Bay now ranks sixth in the Eastern Conference in goal differential.

NHL Parlay Picks for Thursday, March 9, 2023

Nashville Predators ML at Arizona Coyotes

Ottawa Senators at Seattle Kraken ML

Life is difficult for the Arizona Coyotes right now. Arizona is playing in a college stadium that holds less than 5,000 people, and the Coyotes are looking to dump salary once more after another dismal season. We saw Arizona move Jakob Chychrun, Shayne Gostisbehere, Nick Bjustad, and others last week before the trade deadline, and this team is going to be much worse over the last quarter of the season. They currently have 52 points, but there is a very good chance they finish in the cellar of the Western Conference.

Nashville is likely to miss out on the postseason too, but the Predators play very good defense. They are one of six teams in the Western Conference surrendering 180 goals or less, and every other team in the West has allowed at least 200 goals on the year. The Preds have been almost as good on the road as they have been at home, so a trip to the desert isn’t something that will bother them too much.

Roman Josi is one of the best two-way defenders in the NHL, and Nashville should be able to do enough on offense to get the win over Arizona. The Coyotes just traded away their two best defensemen in Gostisbehere and Chychrun, so there will be a lot of fresh faces along the blue line.

The Seattle Kraken have followed in the footsteps of the Vegas Golden Knights to be competitive sooner than anyone expected for an expansion franchise. Seattle has a 90% chance of making the playoffs as the Kraken have a nine-point lead on Calgary and Nashville, but the franchise made a bit of a surprising decision to stand pat at the trade deadline. Most young teams would want to make a push in order to boost their chances, but Seattle’s front office wants to keep building around its current players.

There is strength in depth on this team. Jordan Eberle leads Seattle with 50 points, but a whopping 16 players have at least 20 points.

Ottawa is making a late run for a postseason berth, but the Senators have a losing road record. They did pick up Chychrun from the Coyotes to pair with Thomas Chabot or Jake Sanderson, but it might take some time for the Senators to come together. The Senators were blown out 5-0 on the road by lowly Chicago on Monday night, and that doesn’t bode well for their chances here.
