On December 28, the TGL opened its second season with a matchup between the New York Golf Club and the defending champion Atlanta Drive GC. Atlanta picked up where it left off last year with a 6-4 opening day win.
What was most impressive about the Atlanta win was that Justin Thomas, Patrick Cantlay, and Lucas Glover were all out with injuries. Corey Conners and Chris Gotterup filled in as alternates to help Atlanta to victory.
Thomas is recovering from back surgery, while Cantlay and Glover had unspecified injuries. Their status for Tuesday’s matchup is unconfirmed.
On Tuesday, January 6, the Atlanta Drive GC will face The Bay Golf Club. Atlanta has the matchup advantage of having already played, while The Bay Golf Club will be opening its season.
Last year, the Bay Golf Club tied Atlanta Drive GC for second place in the regular season standings. The Bay GC finished with four wins and one loss, good for eight points. The Bay GC won 25 holes this season, second-best in the TGL.

Shane Lowry has three career PGA Tour wins, including the 2019 Open Championship. He has three Ryder Cup appearances for Team Europe. Lowry is a native of Ireland.
Atlanta Drive GC
Nine months after making the decisive birdie putt in Atlanta Drive GC’s Finals Series win, Billy Horschel, the man who always rises to the occasion at SoFi Center, drained a 37-foot eagle putt to break New York’s hearts once again and give Atlanta a 6-4 victory in the TGL season-opener.
That capped a Finals Series rematch that ended similarly, with Atlanta stepping up down the stretch to win a back-and-forth battle against NYGC.
Horschel did it alongside two new faces in the lineup, as alternates Chris Gotterup and Corey Conners stepped in for Patrick Cantlay and Lucas Glover. Both played well even after a pre-match curveball, with Gotterup breaking his driver. He ended up playing with Conners’ backup driver, striping it down the fairway on the opening tee shot to send the new season into motion officially.
Both teams traded pars in the early going before the action picked up in the fourth. Like a prize fighter setting a trap, Atlanta once again made excellent use of the Hammer at the par-5 Fore-0-Fore to conclude Triples.
