PGA Championship Golf Odds

Major week is here with a collection of the finest golfers in the world headed to western New York and Oak Hill Country Club for the 105th PGA Championship. In the season’s second major it isn’t a surprise to find the two highest ranked players at the top of the odds board. The order might be off with OWGR No. 2 Scottie Scheffler hitting the board as the betting favorite. No. 1 Jon Rahm, who triumphed at the Masters last month, is close behind. They are also the only two players with shorter than 10/1 odds. All but one of the top 100 ranked players are slated to peg it up giving value to players on the second tier of favorites. Recent struggles from Rory McIlroy moved him further down the odds board with Xander Schauffele slotted just ahead in the third spot. Schauffele, Patrick Cantlay and Max Homa are all ranked among the top 10 in search of their first major championship. BookMaker.eu has a complete updated list of betting odds for the PGA Championship when you’re ready to make a wager.

Odds Analysis

Jason Day +3345

It’s impossible to predict when someone is going to win. Keeping tabs on Day over the past few months I would’ve expected a victory earlier since his game was in good shape with five top 10s among seven straight top 20s since the start of 2023. However he cooled with a T39 at Augusta and a MC at the Wells Fargo, so his drought-busting title last week was a tad surprising. Day continued his strong play and is a good fit with plenty of confidence on this track. It’s hard to go back to back, but Day got the taste after a prolonged period.

Tony Finau +2515

There are a handful of players we could call the best without a major championship. Finau certainly fits the bill. This could be the week, however, and Finau always seems to be in contention at majors. He has four wins since The Open last year, including two this season with the most recent in Mexico when he triumphed over Jon Rahm. Finau can blast the ball off the tee, something that will help on the lengthy course, but his short game is often overlooked and probably a bigger key to his success.

Max Homa +4550

Past majors haven’t been kind to Homa with only one top 35 in 13 starts. That best finish came last season in this event and though it was at a different location it points us towards Homa making an impact in his career. He has climbed the ranks the last two seasons earning four of his six career victories in that span. He ended a slump of two straight MCs with a T8 at the WFC.

Xander Schauffele +1375

Continuing on the list of best players without a major championship, my next stop is the X-man. He’s as consistent as any player out there no matter the tournament. A runner-up finish last week was his third straight among the top 4 and he’s rung up five straight top 10s. He’s also been close in majors with 13 finishes among the top 15. And it doesn’t seem to matter where he plays, Schauffele just scores low.

Jordan Spieth +3650

Backing Spieth is a gamble since he backed out of the Byron Nelson in his home state with an injury last week. That may have played a role in his MC at the WFC the week prior. Hopefully it was just a precautionary measure and he’s ready to continue the fine season he’s enjoying. Prior to the injury Spieth lost a playoff at the RBC Heritage and was T4 at the Masters giving him five top 10s in 13 starts. He also gets another crack at the career grand slam, which is motivating.

Course: Oak Hill Country Club – 7,394 yards, Par 70

The East Course at Oak Hill will host for the fourth time, though the layout will look different from last visit in 2013. In 2020 the course had a total makeover with grass change, green reshaping, tree and bunker removal along with the addition of several new back tees. The course will play longer than it did in 2013 and is no picnic at nearly 7,400 yards and par 70. Jason Dufner was a 2-shot winner at 10-under a decade ago. Shaun Michael earned his only PGA Tour victory when the course hosted in 2003. Oak Hill is a long par-70 with only two par-5s, both measuring over 600 yards. With hazards lurking everywhere it’s better to be safe off the tee and deadly accurate on approach.
