Butterfield Bermuda Championship Golf Odds - PGA Tour Betting

Butterfield Bermuda Championship Golf Odds

The PGA Tour returns to Southampton this week for the third edition of the Butterfield Bermuda Championship. A bump up in status means a full allotment of FedExCup points, however that wasn’t enough to attract the bigger names on Tour with most of them opting to take the week off. And because of that the odds suggest a wide open field with Matthew Fitzpatrick the favorite on the opening betting line. Past Masters winners Patrick Reed and Danny Willett will tee it up giving the field some star power. Defending champ Brian Gay also had a podium finish here in 2019 but is listed well down the odds board. There is value in looking further down the list in a field like this. Odds Analysis

Christiaan Bezuidenhout +1400

I say it’s a good idea to scroll down the odds board to find value picks and here I am taking one of the favorites. Well, if you read further down you’ll notice I did follow my own advice it just so happened the Bezuidenhout stood out and he’s the first player on the list. It’s a special tournament for the South African, his first as a PGA Tour member, but he’s enjoyed plenty of success on the Euro circuit and is well rested since a fifth-place showing at the BMW PGA Championship.

Brian Gay +10000

This is more like it, right? I ventured further down the list to find the defending champ sitting at a salacious price. There is a reason why Gay is offered at such high odds, mainly because he hasn’t done much on Tour. But get him at Port Royal and he transforms into an elite player. He was T3 in the inaugural edition in 2019 and returned last year to win in a playoff. His scoring average on those previous eight rounds is a ridiculous 66.88 so it’s hard to say he’s been lucky.

David Lipsky +5000

Sometimes you have to think outside the box and that’s what I’m doing here. Lipsky is a Tour rookie, but he’s accustomed to winning with two international titles and a Korn Ferry Tour win. In fact, over his last five starts across three different tours he’s recorded a T4, T22 and another T4 with this looking like a perfect setup for him.

Denny McCarthy +4500

There are a number of players offered at a nice price so it’s a matter of picking the best options. Course knowledge and experience are big at Port Royal and McCarthy has that. He’s also one of the better putters on Tour and that’s beneficial on a shorter course. McCarthy logged a T15 here in 2019 and placed among the top-5 last year. He also has a pair of top-20s in his last five starts giving him some confidence on a course he obviously enjoys.

Peter Uihlein +6000

Uihlein graduated from the Korn Ferry Tour after five top-10s last season, including a win at the MGM Resorts Championship at Paiute and a pair of runner-up showings. He ranks highly in strokes gained: tee to green and can use that to his benefit at Port Royal. Accuracy has been an issue and one area that could be his downfall. But if he’s able to put the ball where he wants he should be in line for a good finish.

Course: Port Royal Golf Course – 6,828 yards, Par 71

A short 6,828 yards at par 71, Port Royal is best known for hosting the PGA Grand Slam of Golf from 2009-2014. Prior to hosting, the track underwent a $14.5 million renovation. Given the distance we’re not going to see a lot of drivers this week. Port Royal can be tamed with pinpoint accuracy. There are eight par-4s that all play under 415 yards, so expect a lot of wedgies. There are hazards out there to offset the lack of distance. Every hole has at least one strategically placed bunker to stay clear of and several have multiple sand traps. Water is present on four holes that could alter a few tee shots. And finally, the coastal location is subject to wind gusts that will be a factor.
