Nordea Masters Preview, Odds and Predictions

Nordea Masters Preview

The European Tour gets back into action this week with the Nordea Masters in Sweden. Thorbjorn Olesen is a solid favorite to win this event, as he is listed at odds of +1000. No other player is listed with odds of less than +2200. None of the world’s top players are in the field, as they are taking the week off after last week’s PGA Championship. Let’s look at the odds and predictions for the Nordea Masters.

Odds Analysis

Thorbjorn Olesen +1000

When I look at a favorite I try and see if there are reasons to go against him. I can’t find any this week when it comes to Olesen. The field really isn’t that strong and Olesen is a clear standout. He has three top six finishes in his last four European Tour starts, including a win. He has played this course before, as he played it on the Challenge Tour in 2008. I like Olesen and think he should be listed at lower odds.

Alexander Bjork +2200

The local favorite this week will be Bjork with Stenson and Noren not playing. I don’t know that I trust Bjork to deliver, as he has missed the cut twice in three previous Sweden events. His current form isn’t that great either, although his level of competition was much better than it is this week.

Joakim Lagergren +2500

I would like Lagergren if it wasn’t for one huge problem. His four finishes in this event the last four years are MC-MC-48-68. That is too much of a negative for me.

Martin Kaymer +2500

I have no idea what to expect from Kaymer. He has a second, and eighth and six missed cuts since May. I will avoid him simply because his form has been all over the map.

Thomas Detry +2500

Detry gets a lot more attention than he deserves. He simply doesn’t win that often. He has not finished better than a tie for 9th in more than a year. He missed the cut in this event last year.

Soren Kjeldsen +3000

He finished second in this event in 2015 and he is playing well this season including a tie for 7th at the BMW International Open. He might be worth a flyer at these odds.

Marcus Kinhult +5000

My longshot this week in this event is Kinhult. He has played well in this region before and actually led this event as an amateur in 2015 before finishing tied for 33rd. The field isn’t that strong and Kinhult could surprise.

Course: Hills Golf Club is a new course for the European Tour. It measures 7,169 yards and has trees all over the course. The course is said to have hilly terrain but the fairways are generous. The course has a lot of bunkers and there are also water hazards. The course is a par 71 that closes with a 549-yard par 5 where eagle is possible.
