College Football Team Finishing Unbeaten

College Football Team Finishing Unbeaten

With the college football season in the final month or so before conference championships and bowl season, we still have four undefeated teams trying to finish out the season without a loss. Along with game-to-game betting, BookMaker.eu also offers a chance to bet on a team—or multiple teams—remaining undefeated throughout the regular season in a couple prominent prop bets.

With only four games to be before their respective Conference Championship bouts, the No.1 Alabama Crimson Tide, No.2 Clemson Tigers, No.3 Notre Dame Fighting Irish and No.10 UCF Knights all remain undefeated going into Week 10.

ODDS ANALYSIS

And then there were four. After nearly falling to UConn in Week 8, Week 9 was the undoing for South Florida. The Bulls are out of the list and the list of undefeated teams is down to Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame and UCF.

Of those four teams, Alabama, Clemson and Notre Dame are the top three ranked teams in the AP, respectively, with UCF getting less love at No.10 due to a weaker schedule out of the AAC.

Alabama would seemingly be the most likely team to remain undefeated at least until the conference championships. The Crimson Tide have their biggest test this weekend against No.4 LSU in Baton Rouge. Even on the road against a top-5 team they’re two score favorites, but this will be their biggest test.

Mississippi State is a good team, too, but that game is at home for the Tide. It really feels as though it comes down to this weekend for Alabama’s hopes for an undefeated season.

For the Tigers of Clemson, They have Louisville this weekend at home and finish up the season at home against Duke and South Carolina. The only road game ahead is on November 10 against No.24 Boston College, their only ranked opponent the rest of the way.

As for the Fighting Irish, they’ve got an interesting matchup with Northwestern this weekend. Notre Dame had a 22-point victory over Navy last week, but the Wildcats are a tougher opponent and play this one at home. Northwestern had a rough start to the year, but have been good the last four weeks and could be an upset in the making. Florida State, Syracuse and USC are all big name schools and while neither are great right now, they could all present a good front in one game against an undefeated.

Wrapping up the four undefeated is a UCF team that finished last year undefeated, too. They’ve won 20 straight and show no signs of stopping. They’ve got a weaker schedule than the schools from tougher conferences, but you can only play the games on your schedule.

Speaking of those game, USF on the road to close out the season could be the one to finally hand UCF a loss. That’s a rivalry game against a good opponent on the road. That’s got all the ingredients for a loss.

WILL THERE BE AN UNDEFEATED TEAM?

The UCF Knights finished last season undefeated including wins in the conference championship over Memphis and the Peach Bowl over Auburn. As the only undefeated teams they anointed themselves as the College Football Champions despite not getting an invite to the College Football Playoffs due to strength of schedule.

While the Alabama Crimson Tide were the real College Football champions, UCF become the first team to go undefeated—including the championship and bowl games—since the 2013 Florida State Seminoles.

Over the last 10 seasons, we’ve seen a true undefeated team in six seasons with multiple undefeated teams in 2009 and 2010. With the college football playoffs, however, the occurrence has become rarer.

The question here doesn’t include the conference championship games or bowl games, making the task a bit easier, but it’s still not a very common occurrence.

With four teams still undefeated as we head into Week 10 of the college football season, we certainly have a good chance to see at least one team get to the conference championships undefeated with only four weeks left in the season, but will there be exactly one?

Chalk on that is no. The odds for no sit ate -280 while yes is +220. An exact number is hard to back as it is a slim section of possibilities. Saying at least one is more favorable as there are several combinations of possibilities, but saying exactly one becomes difficult. Still, it’s not an easy task and asking more than one team to do it is also difficult.

WILL THERE BE MORE THAN ONE UNDEFEATED TEAM?

While the odds are against a single team remaining undefeated, the odds favor more than one team remaining undefeated at -280 for yes and +210 for no.

With Alabama rolling, they seem like a good bet to remain undefeated and given the now 20-game winning streak by UCF—along with a bit of an easier schedule playing in the AAC—they could as well. They do,
however, still have games against Cincinnati and USF that could cause them some issues.

Even if UCF finally falls, Clemson doesn’t have a remaining game against a highly ranked opponent and Notre Dame—if they make it past Northwestern this weekend—has a relatively clear road to an undefeated season themselves.
