2018-eSports-Coverage-Overwatch-Online

The playoff race is heating up as we’ve crossed the halfway point of the season in the Overwatch League. The New York Excelsior have a commanding lead on the rest of the league at 21-3, but the competition is fierce for the rest of the spots in the postseason. There is currently a four-way tie for second place, with three other teams within three games of second. That will lead to some incredible action down the stretch. Let’s take a look at some of the battles taking place in the East Division on Thursday.

Overwatch League Stage 3, Week 3, Day 2 Betting Odds

Houston Outlaws -300 Florida Mayhem +250

The Houston Outlaws might be 1-3 this stage, but they have only been thoroughly outplayed in one of those matches. Houston knocked off London and took both Philadelphia and New York to Game 5 and were only thumped by a Boston team that has been surprising.

This team has been up and down since making the Stage 1 Playoffs, but the talent is there. Jake has started to look much better after some struggles in Stage 2, and he has very good chemistry with LiNKzr. Muma is still one of the top tanks in the league, and I think this team is about to go on a nice run to close out the stage.

If it wasn’t for Shanghai, we’d all be asking what’s wrong with Florida. The Mayhem were a bit more competitive in Stage 2 when some of their additions started to make a difference, but they have only won three maps so far in Stage 3.

Houston has a definitive edge on Junkertown, and slight edges on all the other maps that will be in rotation for this series. I see the Outlaws winning this series 3-1.

London Spitfire -157 Boston Uprising +131

The Boston Uprising continue to amaze. They were given little chance against the Excelsior after terminating DreamKazper’s contract, but the Uprising ended up pulling off the upset and are now 4-0 in Stage 3. Striker has proven to be one of the most underrated DPS players in the league, and the tank play has been fantastic too.

As for London, the Spitfire continue to sputter. They are just 1-3 so far this stage and have had a tough time adjusting to other teams since winning the Stage 1 Playoffs.

London has a massive edge on Numbani, while Boston has a big advantage on Temple of Anubis. That will likely make the series 1-1 at halftime. I think the series will be a relative coinflip from there, so I’ll go with Boston as the underdog.

New York Excelsior -205 Philadelphia Fusion +175

The last match of the day could prove to be the most exciting. The New York Excelsior have been the best team so far, but they did look vulnerable last week in losing to Boston and going to Game 5 with Houston. They have the same record as the Fusion this stage.

Philadelphia is happy to have Eqo back. He finished his three-match suspension early last week, and he helped lead the Fusion to an upset victory over the Spitfire. The emergence of Snillo has really helped this team too, as Carpe has played off of both players well.

In other situations, I would like the Fusion at these odds. However, the map pool was just about the worst they could draw. They have really struggled on Ilios, Junkertown, and Numbani, while the Excelsior have been very good on all three maps. New York has a good chance to sweep the series with these maps.
