Royal Never Give Up had a little bit of trouble dismissing Team World Elite in their playoff bout on Thursday, but the perennial Chinese powerhouse pulled through. RNGU got some excellent play out of xiaohu and Uzi in the mid and late game to end up with a sweep over Team WE.
RNGU will now face Snake Gaming with a spot in the LPL Semifinals on the line. Although Snake finished with a better record than RNGU, the latter is a heavy favorite due to their strong play at the end of the year.

RNGU dismantled Snake in both games of their series en route to closing out the year as one of the hottest teams in China. Snake will look to avoid seeing their spring come to an end by the RNGU juggernaut, but they know they have a tough task at hand even with a point advantage coming into the series.
Player to Watch
Every time you bring up RNGU, Uzi is the first player to come to your mind. Uzi is arguably the best Chinese player in the history of League of Legends and one of the best AD Carries in the world. His mechanical proficiency is nearly unparalleled, and he highlights that at the League of Legends All-Star event at the end of the year. Uzi has won the past two 1v1 tournaments, besting the top players in the world.
Uzi sat out for the first few weeks of the season as he was still recovering from a hand injury. Without their superstar in the lineup, RNGU struggled and looked like they could miss the playoffs at one point.
He returned to the team after the Chinese New Year, and with Uzi back in the lineup, RNGU’s fortunes greatly improved. The team went on a strong run to close out the year in convincing fashion, and his steady play in the bottom lane helped pace the team.
On the season, Uzi finished with a 5.3 KDA and averaged over four kills a game. Both of those totals are among the best in China. The team leaned on him heavily to him and tried to draft Uzi onto hypercarries in order to thrive. He finished the regular season accounting for 32.5 percent of his team’s damage.
Matchup to Watch
For Snake to pull off the upset, Knight is going to have to perform well against xiaohu in the mid lane. Knight has had a very good season. He finished the year with more kills than any other mid laner by a wide margin, and he was a consistent presence in team fights. Knight accounted for 30.5 percent of his team’s damage, most among Chinese mid laners, and he was involved in two-thirds of the team’s kills, the second-highest total in China.
Although xiaohu does not have the numbers that Knight does, he has the benefit of experience. He was pivotal in RNGU’s win over Team WE, and he has went toe to toe with some of the best mid laners in the world and thrived at both Worlds and MSI.
Prediction
This is going to be closer than the experts think. Snake is a good team and will push Royal Never Give up to the limit. In the end, RNGU will get the victory, but they will have to work for it. I’m calling for Royal Never Give Up to defeat Snake Gaming 3-2.
