League of Legends EU LCS Championship Betting Preview

You can argue that no region saw more surprising results than Europe during the Spring Split, but at the end of the day the two teams that most people expected to meet in the final did just that.
Fnatic was the favorite coming into the season and left no doubt that it was the better side facing Team Vitality in the semifinals. Fnatic was able to beat Vitality 3-1 thanks in part to a very good performance from Caps. That is great news for Fnatic who needed the mid laner to play well against Jiizuke.

I’ll admit I was wrong about G2. Only Perkz is left from the team that has won the last four EU LCS titles, but the organization’s winning ways continue. After dropping the first game in the Semifinals against Splyce, G2 proceeded to win the next three and advance to the finals.

Fnatic -130
G2 +110

Key Player

In the regular season, Fnatic won both of the meetings between these teams. With that being the case, you might be wondering why they are such a relatively short favorite. The big reason for that is the situation in the top lane for Fnatic.

Unfortunately, Fnatic’s starting top laner sOAZ hurt his hand at the end of the regular season and will not be able to play in the finals. sOAZ started all but two games for Fnatic during the regular season and was very solid with his play. That has put the pressure on substitute Bwipo.

Bwipo has played well in limited action. He was fine in his two games in the regular season and was even named the MVP once. The playoffs are a different animal though and Bwipo struggled against Cabochard last week. He was not able to be effective on either Cho’Gath or Sion, and he looks like he has to be on a late game carry like Gangplank or Swain.

That does not bode well for his matchup against Wunder. Wunder was great against Splyce last week, dominating Odoamne in their matchup. He has a ton of experience in Europe and can play a plethora of champions. That gives G2 an advantage, and they might decide to play through this lane.

Matchup to Watch

Where Fnatic has been great over the past few years is the bottom lane. Rekkles is the best AD Carry in Europe and he dominated over the regular season. He posted a ludicrous 13.0 KDA and was able to pick apart teams in the laning phase and beyond thanks to some nice play from Hylissang. Both players have oodles of experience on this stage and won’t shy away from the moment.

They will be paired against Wadid and Hjarnan. G2’s bottom lane duo surprised many by their performance against Splyce in the semifinals. They were able to outplay Kobbe and kaSing, giving G2 an advantage that wasn’t necessarily expected. Hjarnan’s play on Jhin was superb and looked good on Tristana too. If they can perform well, that will give G2 a huge boost.

The Play

If sOAZ was able to play, Fnatic would be a -180 or -200 favorite and I would back them at that price. However, with an inexperienced player in the top lane, give me G2 as a slight underdog. This isn’t a meta where a top laner can just be passive and sit on a tank, but instead one where top laners need to be proactive. That gives G2 a big advantage that it will use to retain its title as Kings of Europe.
