The LCK’s dominance of the international scene is starting to feel like a distant memory at this point. After winning five straight League of Legends World Championships from 2013 to 2017, we haven’t seen a Korean team win a major international title for each of the past two seasons. Korean players are having plenty of success playing for LPL teams in China, but the risk-averse tendencies of LCK teams aren’t working on the grandest stage any longer. That has led to a massive shakeup this offseason with nearly every team making significant changes. This league is more wide open than ever before, as nine of the ten teams have some hope of an LCK title this season.

Although Gen.G lost to T1 in the quarterfinals of the KeSPA Cup a few weeks ago, they are the team considered the favorites to win it all by the oddsmakers. The team formerly known as Samsung Galaxy invested heavily in new players to complement bottom laner Ruler this offseason.
Bdd was one of the most disappointing players in the LCK in 2019. but Gen.G are optimistic that he can recover and be the player he was on Kingzone DragonX. He is a very talented mid laner that felt like he had to do much with KT Rolster last year, but he won’t have those same worries this year. Gen.G signed the top free agent jungler in Korea by snagging Clid away from T1, and this organization is optimistic that those two will shine in much the same way we saw Doinb and Tian shine at Worlds. Given the wholesale changes, it’s difficult to take Gen.G at even money, but this team is undeniably talented.
DragonX had a disappointing end to the 2019 season, so this organization used its deep pockets to make some big moves over the last two months. They brought in former Griffin coach cvMax to be the head coach of DragonX, and they signed his favorite player to a big deal shortly afterwards.
Chovy is the most individually skilled mid laner in the LCK. He proved that during his time on Griffin last year, racking up a KDA over 100 at one point in the Spring Split, and he will have former teammate Doran in the top lane. There are major questions at support and in the jungle, but Kingzone signed over a dozen promising young players as trainees, and the hope is that a few of those signees will pick up the slack if the starters can’t cut it.
This is an unfamiliar spot for T1. The three-time World Champions are not one of the top two favorites heading into the season for the first time since 2013, and it feels like the dynasty might be ready to crumble. T1 were the best team in the LCK last season but couldn’t get past G2 Esports at either the Mid-Season Invitational or Worlds.
T1 lost two of its best players this offseason when top laner Khan left for the riches of the LPL and Clid joined Gen.G after leading from the jungle for much of the campaign. Faker and Teddy will make this team formidable, but there are serious questions to be answered in the top lane and jungle.
The best bet on the board currently is DAMWON Gaming. DAMWON showcased their incredible micro skill over the second half of last year to qualify for Worlds, and they brought their entire team back from last year. ShowMaker and Nuguri are two of the best laners in the world at their positions, and the bottom lane gained confidence and came on by the end of the year. This mixture of continuity and talent is unparalleled in the league, and DAMWON should be closer to +200 than +400.
