LCK Korea 2018 Spring Split Grand Finals Betting Preview

The LCK gauntlet has gone as expected according to the seeds. SK Telecom T1 was able to beat KSV eSports before getting defeated 3-1 by KT Rolster. The way KT beat SKT led the oddsmakers to declare third-place KT the favorite over second-place Afreeca Freecs, but the Freecs showed their mettle by winning their first-ever playoff series in a 3-1 victory over KT.

Now, Afreeca will take on the team that was far and away the best in the LCK during the regular season. Kingzone DragonX picked up right where they left off when they were known as Longzhu Gaming last summer and finished 16-2 this spring. Many are expecting them to make quick work of Afreeca to win their second straight LCK title and represent Korea at the Mid-Season Invitational.

League of Legends LCK Korea 2018 Spring Split Grand Finals Betting Odds

Kingzone DragonX -340
Afreeca Freecs +277

These teams met twice in the regular season, with Kingzone winning both matches. Kingzone swept Afreeca 2-0 back in Week 2 and defeated them 2-1 in Week 5. The favorites gave us pretty complete performances in all five games, with the only loss being a game in which they blew after being well ahead.

However, those games came many moons ago and we have seen the meta change significantly since then. The last series between Kingzone and Afreeca was on Patch 8.3, before the major changes and then adjustments we saw on later patches.

Player to Watch

Khan is indisputably the best top laner in the world. While you can make reasonable arguments for at least two different players being the best at the other four positions, Khan has been the best in his role for almost a year now.

Top laners don’t usually have the impact that Khan has. Many teams just ask their top laners to jump on a tank and stay even in CS in order to help out with team fights later, but Khan is not that type of player. Instead, he is a playmaker. Khan continually helped change the meta and even showed us new mechanics we didn’t think were possible on champions like Gangplank. He was deadly on Gangplank and Camille, but where he really shined was on his preferred champion Jayce.

He was the only player in the world that saw teams continually ban Jayce away from him. His dominance on the champion and ability to play it into a number of selections gave Kingzone a massive advantage and a winning lane in almost every game.

Khan’s stats jump off the page. Afreeca’s Kiin is no slouch and had an impressive split with a 4.3 KDA in the top lane, the second-best number in Korea. However, it’s no comparison to Khan. Khan had a 6.3 KDA and put up incredible damage numbers. His 581 DPM rate was the highest of any top laner by a wide margin, and he also put down a large number of wards to give his team vision. Afreeca will have to find some way to keep him from bullying Kiin.

Matchup to Watch

It’s not often you highlight a support battle, but Kingzone’s GorillA and Afreeca’s TusiN are the two best in the world. GorillA has been doing this for a while. He and PraY have incredible chemistry in the bottom lane and GorillA helps out elsewhere too with his legendary roams. More than once, he has stealthily roamed into the mid lane and helped get BDD ahead in his lane.

TusiN nearly won the Spring Split MVP award for his playmaking ability. He hopped on champions with great initiation like Alistar and Janna, often turning the tide in a team fight by using his ultimate at just the right time for maximum efficiency. He and Kramer were able to have some success in the laning phase against Kingzone in their previous matches, so keep an eye on their duel.

Prediction

We have never seen a team like Kingzone DragonX before. This is the first team in League of Legends history with five players that can carry, and that gives them an incredible amount of options. Deciding who to ban out against this team is almost impossible, as Khan’s Jayce, Olaf’s Peanut, and BDD’s Sion are almost unstoppable. Afreeca will make at least one game interesting, but Kingzone will win this in a 3-0 sweep.
