ENCE are the favorites to win DreamHack Winter, and the Finns would love nothing more than to pick up a win in another Scandinavian country. They have played in a number of third- and fourth-tier tournaments this season, winning the ASUS ROG Finnish Championship and the Assembly GameXpo earlier in the month and finishing second at DreamHack Montreal. ENCE showed they can play with the best in the world too at StarSeries Season Six, topping another 15 teams to win the whole competition.
The legions of Optic fans don’t support their CS:GO team as much as their other Esports teams, but there should be some Green Wall members in attendance for this one. That could help immensely, as it has been two years since Optic last won a respected tournament, claiming first in the second season of ELEAGUE. Optic are ranked No. 20 in the world by Gosu Gamers though.
LDLC were a force to be reckoned with four years ago, but the organization has been largely dormant since that time. This year, they have two minor tournament wins to their name but nothing else of substance, and even those wins weren’t great considering their level of competition. This represents a chance for LDLC to prove what they can do, and they have been placed in the easier side of the bracket.
That side of the bracket also has Heroic in it, and that should be the other team that gets through to the knockout rounds here. Heroic are currently rated No. 13 on Gosu’s fluid ratings, and they have a consistently solid player in MODDII. Whereas the lineups for most teams change all the time, MODDII has been with Heroic for over two years now. That has given the squad some stability to rally around when the times get tough.
Complexity are one of the lowest rated teams at the tournament per Gosu Gamers. I had a little bit of faith in them going into DreamHack Atlanta a few weeks back, but they have largely floundered. Their best performances have been in minors and qualifiers, and they have performed terribly in premier tier events this season.
Finally, there’s G2. It’s been a rollercoaster season for the organization that was seen as one of the best in the world in late 2017. They have been making wholesale changes in order to recapture the magic, and they will be trying out two extremely new changes in this one. SmithZz and Ex6TenZ are going to be replaced by Lucky and JaCkz for this competition at least, and there will be a coaching change as well. It’s pretty much impossible too bet them at these odds as a result.
