2018 Mid-Season Invitational Day 1 Betting Preview

The Mid-Season Invitational main event is set to start this Friday. While 10 teams have been battling it out for the other two spots in the main event, four teams have been ready to get started for some time now. Fnatic and Team Liquid clinched their spots at this tournament over a month ago and Kingzone DragonX had wrapped up the Korean title in mid-April. Of the teams from the four major regions, only Royal Never Give Up has qualified relatively recently.

Those four teams are seen as the four favorites heading into MSI. However, Kingzone DragonX stands out above the rest. A Korean team has won each of the last five major international tournaments, and Kingzone might just be the best team we’ve ever seen from the region. They are a massive -350 favorite to win MSI.

2018 Mid-Season Invitational Day 1 Betting Odds

Royal Never Give Up -190
Fnatic +160

Fnatic’s Rekkles has been dying to square off against Royal Never Give Up’s Uzi again. These two led their teams to the Quarterfinals of the World Championships last season, but RNG was too much for Fnatic in the series. Rekkles made a couple big mistakes and Uzi was able to capitalize to help lead his team to the semifinals.

Once again, both teams’ strategies have largely involved having their AD Carries lead them to victory. Fnatic has very much been a two-man team at times this season with Rekkles and mid laner Caps doing the brunt of the work. RNG has been a little more well-rounded, even if the default is to let Uzi try to win the game late.

RNG does have a question heading into this game though. Karsa started more of the team’s games in the regular season, while Mlxg was primarily the jungler during their playoff run. It will be interesting to see which jungler ends up playing in this one.

Kingzone DragonX -426
Team Liquid +331

On paper, this looks like a total mis-match. Kingzone has the advantage at every position. They have the flexibility to play through any of their five players, making it very hard to strategize against this team.

The main thing that Liquid has going for it is synergy. Mid laner Pobelter and support Olleh are very good at doing the little stuff to help out their team. Both players amplify their teammates in teamfights and are not caught out of position often.

With all that being said, it’s hard to see them finding a way to beat Kingzone. Khan and Peanut are much better than Impact and Xmithie, and they will be able to outplay their counterparts.

Kingzone DragonX -210
Royal Never Give Up +175

Almost everyone is calling for either Kingzone or RNG to win MSI. It’s hard to go against that logic as these two teams were both seen as two of the best last year, and they each got better in the offseason.

Adding Peanut to the equation has made a huge difference for Kingzone. Although he is seen as somewhat hit or miss, he is the best jungler in the world when he is on. He was the MVP of MSI in 2017, making a number of highlight reel plays to help lead SK Telecom T1 to the title.

He is going to try to set the tone in the early game. Whether or not he succeeds, will play a big factor in who wins the first meeting between these two heavyweights.
