2018 League of Legends World Championship Betting Update

A lot has gone on in League of Legends since the last World Championship update. Korea can no longer be considered far and away the best region for League of Legends in the world. Although Korean teams have won the last five World Championships, the region’s performance at the Mid-Season Invitational and Rift Rivals has left a lot to be desired. That has led to odds falling across the board on Chinese teams, as this region might be ready to stake its claim as the best in the world. Teams from both countries are the overwhelming favorites to win the World Championship, with the nine top favorites hailing from one of those two regions.

It’s understandable why Kingzone is still the favorite. The collection of talent that they have been able to put together is quite impressive, and that has led to the oddsmakers loving them despite their woes. There is a feeling that they will eventually put it together, but it seems like they might be spinning their wheels a bit too. Kingzone have not performed particularly well at international events, and that’s a big concern.

The faith in SKT is apparent in these odds. SKT has been a shell of itself this year, and while the three-time World Champions have looked better in recent weeks, they are still on the outside looking in when it comes to qualifying for the Summer Split Playoffs. Faker and Bang have played well, but the team has been unable to find consistency from any of the other three positions.

Perhaps the two best bets on the board are the two best Chinese teams, Invictus Gaming and Royal Never Give Up. Royal Never Give Up won the Mid-Season Invitational rather convincingly and boasts the best AD Carry in the world in Uzi. However, many analysts in China believe that the best team in the region might just be Invictus.

Invictus has a superstar mid laner in Rookie, a strong up and coming AD Carry in JackeyLove, and possibly the best top laner in the world in TheShy. TheShy was injured prior to the Spring Split Playoffs, but he has looked great since returning. The young JackeyLove will likely have a lot of pressure after his performance in the Spring Split Playoffs.

It’s pretty telling that the first team we see outside of Korea or China on this list is Flash Wolves. The Flash Wolves have long been a dangerous team in international tournaments, and they just recently beat both RNG and Kingzone at Rift Rivals Red. They are good at strategizing and catching teams off-guard and usually take a few games to figure out.
All the Western teams are at least 36-1 to win the World Championship. It’s no secret that North America and Europe have struggled on the international stage, but both regions have seen better play recently. A team like Misfits might be worth a play at 65-1 considering their strong play recently, as well as their experience.
