It was a wild end to the NA LCS Summer Split regular season last weekend. Team Liquid’s win over Echo Fox on Saturday afternoon locked Liquid into the No. 1 seed and in all likelihood earned the team a spot at the World Championships due to total points accumulated through both splits. The second spot was taken by the red hot Cloud9, who might be the favorite entering the playoffs at this point. Cloud9 won eight straight games to erase a miserable start and make it to the postseason.
Incredibly, the other four playoff teams were determined at the end of the regular season, but their seeds were not. All four teams finished with a record of 10-8, so they had to play tiebreakers on Monday night in order to determine who would play who this weekend. In the tiebreakers, 100 Thieves went 2-0 to get the No. 3 seed, and they will be facing a FlyQuest team that dropped both matches to finish with the No. 6 seed. Team SoloMid and Echo Fox each went 1-1 so those two sides will meet in the 4-5 matchup.

Team SoloMid -159 Echo Fox +119
The only reason TSM are this big of a favorite coming into this match is the name. TSM are the most decorated team in the history of the NA LCS, but they have not been strong this year. Echo Fox beat them in the first tiebreaker match and beat them in both of their regular season meetings too.
When these teams met on Sunday, the extent to which Echo Fox’s bottom lane outplayed TSM’s bottom lane was impressive. Neither Zven nor Mithy picked up a kill for TSM and both players had just one assist while they combined for five deaths. Meanwhile, Lost looked sharp even though he has still only made a handful of starts at the highest level of play in North America, while Smoothie continues to prove that he is still one of the better supports in the region.
If TSM are going to win, they are likely going to be relying heavily on Bjergsen in the mid lane. Bjergsen has been the team’s star for a few years now, and he is capable of hard carrying. Damonte is not as experienced or as technically strong as Bjergsen, so TSM has an advantage here. However, it might be the only one they have. I love Echo Fox as an underdog in this situation.
100 Thieves -200 FlyQuest +148
It looks like FlyQuest might finally be starting to fall back down to Earth. This team has the third-worst gold differential in the NA LCS according to Games of Legends, so regression had been expected for quite some time.
On Monday, FlyQuest played a bloody thriller against 100 Thieves. These two teams combined to rack up 46 kills in just over 40 minutes of action, and both mid laners put up absurd numbers. FlyQuest are certainly kicking themselves after blowing a gold lead of over 4500 in the match, but they have to feel confident about their chances given how they fared in the early game.
That being said, I’m going to back 100 Thieves in this one largely because of Ssumday and Aphromoo. Ssumday continues to show that he is one of the best top laners in North America, and he was incredible on Gangplank on Monday. He had a 23 KDA on his way to winning MVP honors in the game, and FlyQuest had no answer for him in the late game. As for Aphromoo, he is one of the best shotcallers around and gives 100 Thieves an edge in late game teamfights.
