Team Liquid might be wondering what it needs to do to get some respect. Liquid won the Spring Split, but they are not the favorites to win the Summer Split according to the oddsmakers. Instead, Team SoloMid are favored to best the rest of the competition in North America this summer. TSM was the favorite coming into the spring, but they were dumped by Clutch Gaming in their first playoff series. They will try to prove that they are an elite team once again later this month.

TSM is hoping that some more time together will help their starters overcome some of the coordination issues that plagued them in spring. The bottom lane duo of Zven and mithy was immediately supposed to be one of the best in North America, but that failed to happen. They had trouble warding off and setting up ganks, and jungler MikeYeung was unable to help out much of the time. Bjergsen and Hauntzer played well, and the new additions need to do their part for TSM to get back to the top.

Doublelift was the star of the postseason for Liquid. He put up insane numbers and showed that he was the best AD Carry in the region. He is a player you can trust when you funnel all your resources into him, as other teams found out at the Mid-Season Invitational. Pobelter proved he was one of the top mid laners too. He was superb on Azir at MSI, and he was able to win his lane against some of the best talent from around the world.

Surprisingly, it was Cloud9’s bottom lane that let the club down in spring. Top laner Licorice was good and was named the Rookie of the Split and Jensen was Jensen. However, neither Sneaky or Smoothie were able to have a lot of success earlier in the year. The two have synergy, so it’s just about the little things. Cloud9 were swept by Liquid in the first round of the playoffs, but all three games were very close.

Echo Fox was a very good team to start the year, but the organization slowly backslid as the season wore on. Opponents started to prioritize shutting down Huni in the top lane, and that kept Echo Fox from performing at the same level. The squad relied on pressure from Huni up top to free things up elsewhere on the map. When that failed to materialize later in the year, the team struggled to win matches.

It’s not often that you see a regular season champion with such long odds heading into the next split without something major happening. 100 Thieves looked fantastic last year with the bottom lane leading the way. Aphromoo was one of the best players all split long, and he was able to outplay numerous other supports. Yet there are real concerns in other places, and 100 Thieves must overcome those.

Clutch Gaming are the last team with a real shot to win it all. Mid laner Febiven was great throughout the year and Hakuho came up big in the clutch. He was the MVP of their series win against TSM, and he will see more attention in summer.
