2018 League of Legends Demacia Cup Betting Preview

Royal Never Give Up just proved that they were the best team in the world in Paris. After Uzi finally won an LPL title, RNG earned the right to represent China at the Mid-Season Invitational. RNG started slow, posting a record of 2-3 in their first five games, but then they turned it on. They won 10 of their next 11 games en route to upsetting Kingzone DragonX to win MSI.

Despite all of this, they are not the favorite to win the Demacia Cup. Instead, the Demacia Cup betting odds favor Invictus Gaming. Invictus was the best team in China during the regular season, posting an 18-1 record. However, they lost to Royal Never Give Up in the LPL semifinals after top laner TheShy suffered a hand injury at the tail end of the regular season. With TheShy healthy again, Invictus is the favorite.

2018 League of Legends Demacia Cup Betting Odds

Invictus Gaming +175
Royal Never Give Up +225
Edward Gaming +550
Rogue Warriors +800
Bilibili Gaming +900
Snake Esports +1000
TyLoo +8000
ShadowCream +10000

Even though Duke started in place of TheShy, Invictus’ loss to RNG wasn’t the result of poor play in the top lane. Duke played well and was even able to push in his lane against RNG. Rookie wasn’t the issue either. The mid laner performed extremely well until the final game and largely got the better of xiaohu through the laning phase.

Unfortunately, young AD Carry JackeyLove made numerous mistakes. Going up against a legend like Uzi is a tall task for anyone, but JackeyLove is just 17 and his inexperience was apparent during late game team fights. He was caught out of position a number of times and that made all the difference. He has had plenty of time to get over the loss, and his play will be paramount to Invictus’ hopes.

There hasn’t been much rest for Royal Never Give Up. The LPL had the longest regular season of any of the major regions because of the break for Chinese New Year, and then they had to quickly get ready for MSI. While every other team in the Demacia Cup has had time to rest, RNG will be participating in this tournament less than two weeks after winning MSI.

Uzi was dominant on Kai’Sa in the LPL Playoffs and at MSI, but now that the champion has been severely nerfed, she is no longer a must ban. That takes away the win condition of just getting to 30 minutes and then having Uzi take over. It will likely lead to Ezreal being banned away from him as well, meaning that his teammates will need to step up since he will not get an OP champion.

Edward Gaming have won six of the eight Demacia Cups that have been held thus far. With those numbers, there is some value in EDG to claim yet another one, particularly at +550. This team did finish runners-up during the LPL Spring Split Playoffs and their performance is sure to improve with Clearlove back in the lineup.

Clearlove has long been the best jungler in China, but he sat out nearly all of the Spring Split. He only returned right before the playoffs, and he definitely needed to work out some kinks. He has great synergy with Scout, and there is a good chance that EDG wins this tournament with Clearlove back. This is my best bet of the Demacia Cup.
