Jose Carlos Ramirez vs. Jose Zepeda - Boxing Props

Jose Carlos Ramirez is one of the most respected champions in boxing both with fans and gamblers alike. The defending World Boxing Council world super lightweight champion will be defending his belt on February 10 when he faces Jose Zepeda, an up and coming prospect with plenty of potential upside. Ramirez will offer Zepeda a tall task as the defending champ has never lost a fight. And the only previous loss for Zepeda in his career was the last time he fought for a championship back in 2015 when he was defeated by Terry Flanagan in a second round RTD. While the public will be siding with Ramirez there is plenty of speculation about Zepeda being a potential live dog.

Jose Carlos Ramirez vs. Jose Zepeda Fight Preview

Jose Carlos Ramirez will be making his second title defense in his upcoming bout against Jose Zepeda. This bout will be taking place in Ramirez’s home town of Fresno, California, where he draws sellout crowds for his fights. Ramirez is a home town hero in Fresno where he is heavily involved in the community with public service. As an example, proceeds from this fight with Zepeda will benefit the Community Cancer Institute in Clovis, California. Further, Ramirez will auction off his fight-worn trunks, gloves, shirt and shoes with all proceeds going to that same cause.

“I feel blessed to defend my title a second time at home against a great opponent and also support an issue that affects everyone and their families,” said the champ.

In fact, it his Ramirez’s community service work that has earned him accolades and respect far beyond the Fresno community. Among the most passionate admirers is Top Rank Chairman Bob Arum. “Jose Ramirez is a great young champion and an even better person,” said the Chairman. “We are proud to be involved with an event that will raise a tremendous amount of exposure for cancer research. Zepeda is a really tough fighter who will give Jose an excellent fight.”

This will be the fifth time that Ramirez has headlined an appearance at his hometown Save Mart Center ring, where he has clearly established himself as one of the top draws in boxing.

To some, Ramirez matching up with Zepeda comes off as odd due to Zepeda not being among the higher ranked boxers. This bout is also seen as a potential setup for Ramirez so that he can face Maurice Hooker, who defeated Alex Saucedo for the World Boxing Organization light welterweight title last November.

Since his loss to Terry Flanigan Zepeda has not lost in his last eight bouts with seven wins and a no contest. He has been anxious for another shot at a world championship. Zepeda is regarded as a good fighter, though not great.

“I’ve been waiting for this opportunity since my first world title shot against Terry Flanagan,” said Zepeda. “I’m going to train very hard, better than ever before. I’m very thankful to my team and Jose Ramirez for giving me this chance. I’m not going to waste it, and that’s why I am training so hard.”

Boxing Betting Tips

Zepeda is stepping way up in class here against Ramirez. While not a total mismatch he has not much more than a puncher’s chance, if that.
