As the reigning WBO title holder, Herring is a heavy -1500 favorite coming into this bout. To those unfamiliar with betting on boxing, this line means you would need to bet $1500 on Herring to make a $100 profit. However, if you believe Oquendo has what it takes to pull off the upset, a $100 wager on the underdog would win you $750 plus your original stake.

As the fight nears, there will be decision betting too. You will be able to bet on whether the fight is decided by KO, TKO, or decision, and you can bet on which boxer will win the fight in that fashion as well.

Jamel Herring vs Jonathan Oquendo Preview

Herring has one of the best stories in the boxing world. He was on active duty in the United States Marine Corps for nearly a decade, and he was deployed to Iraq in the mid-2000s. Military life meant that Herring’s boxing career was put on the backburner for a long time, but he distinguished himself during his time in the corps and qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics. Herring made the decision to leave the military and turn pro in late 2012, and that move has paid off in a big way.

In his first 15 fights, Herring was only tested once. He ran his record to 15-0, but then he was stopped in the 10th round by Denis Shafikov in July 2016. Herring followed that up by retiring Art Hovhannisyan in just three rounds the following February, but it appeared that his career stalled off after he lost a unanimous decision to Ladarius Miller later that year.

Since that setback, Herring has not been defeated. He knocked out Juan Pablo Sanchez in May 2018, and then he won a unanimous decision over John Vincent Moralde to earn the IBF-USBA junior lightweight title. Another unanimous decision victory over Adeilson Dos Santos led to a title fight with Masayuki Ito, and he defeated Ito to earn the WBO junior lightweight belt. Herring defended that title back in November against Lamont Roach Jr, and this will be his second title defense.

Oquendo is one of the most experienced boxers Herring has faced in his career. Oquendo has been fighting professionally for 16 years, and he has won multiple minor titles during his climb. He claimed the WBO Latino super bantamweight title for the first time in February 2010, and he followed that up with a knockout victory over Eden Sonsona for the WBO NABO super bantamweight belt in his next strap. Unfortunately for Oquendo, he was knocked out by Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. when he made a play for the WBO International super bantamweight title, but he claimed the WBO Latino featherweight title a few years later.

His first major title fight came in December 2015 when he squared off against Jesus Marcelo Andres Cuellar for the WBA featherweight title, but he lost a unanimous decision. Oquendo followed that up with four straight victories, yet he lost a unanimous decision to Roach last May, so many bettors will be skeptical about wagering on him.
