The greatest boxer of the last 25 years has finally decided the time is now. Mayweather will come out of retirement one last time (maybe) to take on Logan Paul. Mayweather will face Paul in an exhibition fight where there will be six three-minute rounds. It will headline a Showtime PPV card that will also feature Jean Pascal taking on Badou Jack in south Florida on Sunday, June 6.

Mayweather and Paul were originally set to meet in the ring on February 20. However, that date was pushed back with an eye on having fans in the stands in order to make more money for everyone involved in this exhibition.
It’s hard to know what’s in store when Mayweather and Paul touch gloves. Mayweather is arguably the greatest boxer in the history of the sport. He was an untouchable 50-0 as a professional boxer, and he won titles in five different weight classes. Money Mayweather won titles as a super featherweight, lightweight, light welterweight, welterweight, and light middleweight, beating some of the best boxers of his generation along the way.
He beat other greats like Oscar De La Hoya, Canelo Alvarez, and Manny Pacquiao, and he also beat champions Miguel Cotto, Arturo Gatti, Ricky Hatton, Shane Mosley, and Marcos Maidana during his career. Normally, those would be the fights that we would focus on, but the obvious comparison here is to Mayweather’s crossover fight with UFC star Conor McGregor almost four years ago.
Mayweather had been retired for two years before coming out of hibernation for a huge payday. He and McGregor did their part to turn their fight into a huge spectacle, making it one of the biggest PPV events of all-time. However, the outcome was never in doubt despite a strong start from McGregor. Mayweather sat back and was content to rely on his defense like he has for his whole career, and McGregor got winded after trying to take the fight to Mayweather for the first few rounds. That allowed Mayweather to turn it on starting in the fourth round, and he convincingly won the next seven rounds before the referee stopped the fight.
Although Mayweather hasn’t fought in nearly four years, he is still in good shape and isn’t as old as you might think. He is just 44 years old, so this isn’t a Bernard Hopkins, Mike Tyson, or Roy Jones Jr. type situation.
Logan Paul will have a few advantages, giving some of his fans at least a little justification in betting on him to pull off what would be a monumental upset. Paul is six inches taller than Mayweather, and he is expected to be 30 pounds heavier than his opponent when these two enter the ring. He is 18 years younger than Mayweather too, so he shouldn’t tire out easily.
However, Paul doesn’t have a lot of experience or talent when it comes to boxing. He has only taken part in two boxing matches in his career, facing fellow YouTube star KSI. Paul and KSI fought to a draw as amateurs, and KSI secured a split decision win in Paul’s lone professional fight.
