Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul Boxing Odds

Whether or not you like this new era of boxing, you have to give credit to Floyd Mayweather. The greatest boxer of the 21st Century is the progenitor of the spectacles we are now seeing in the ring. The overall success of Mayweather’s crossover fight with UFC superstar Conor McGregor in 2017 opened the doors to others following in his footsteps, leading to YouTube stars and other boxing legends putting on a show. Now, Mayweather will return to boxing for one final fight (allegedly), and he will take on YouTube personality Logan Paul.

When: Sunday, June 6, 2021

Where: Hard Rock Stadium, Miami Gardens, Florida

Why: Exhibition Fight

This bout between Floyd Mayweather (50-0 with 27 KOs) and Logan Paul (0-1) will be capped at six three-minute rounds. It will be the final fight of a Showtime promotion that will also feature Badou Jack facing off with Jean Pascal for the WBA light heavyweight title and Mayweather’s friend Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson fighting for the first time.

Exhibition Fight

It’s hard to seriously analyze this fight. Logan Paul has no real boxing experience to speak of as his only two fights were against British YouTuber KSI. He fought KSI to a draw when they put on the trunks as amateurs, and their rematch was Paul’s lone professional fight. Paul ended up losing a split decision to KSI the second time.

That second fight came in November 2019. His brother Jake Paul has entered the ring and looked somewhat impressive three times since that point, but we haven’t seen Logan Paul box in the last 18 months. That makes it tough to gauge how much training he has been doing and whether or not he will be in good shape for this fight.

Although Floyd Mayweather hasn’t boxed since the McGregor bout four years ago, there’s little doubt he is still in great shape. Mayweather had arguably the most impressive career in the history of boxing. He won titles in five different weight classes, and he scored victories over all of the other elite fighters in this era. Mayweather’s wins over Oscar De La Hoya, Canelo Alvarez, and Manny Pacquiao solidified his legacy, and his 50-0 career record will stand the test of time.

Unlike most boxers, Mayweather retired with plenty of gas in the tank. His last real fight came when he was just 38 years old, so this isn’t a punch-drunk fighter that is way past his prime. Furthermore, Mayweather’s style means that his body is still in good shape. Mayweather never took a lot of clean punches, as he is widely considered the greatest defensive boxer in the history of the sport. His ability to stick and move flustered a lot of his opponents, but he had the power to stop them if they came at him recklessly.

We saw Mayweather dominate McGregor when they fought four years ago. Yes, McGregor looked sharp for the first few rounds and even won the first round on every judge’s scorecard, but Mayweather was feeling out his opponent and letting him tire himself. As the rounds rolled on, Mayweather started to attack weaknesses in McGregor’s game and then delivered some punishment as McGregor started to tire. That led to the referee calling the bout in the 10th round, as Mayweather had completely taken over by that point.

To be fair, Mayweather has a few things working against him in this fight. He is 18 years older than Paul, and he is giving up six inches in height and 30 pounds. That means he could be in a bit of trouble if Paul were to ever connect with a hard blow, but the chances of that are unlikely given Mayweather’s defensive prowess.

Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul

This figures to be even more lopsided than the Mayweather-McGregor fight. McGregor at least had years of experience in the MMA as one of the best champions in the UFC, but Paul has very little experience in any combat sport. Although Mayweather is past his prime and might move a bit slower, he will dominate Paul.
