NBA Wednesday, April 5 Parlay Picks

After what we saw on Sunday night, it might be best to back off of big favorites for a while. For the first time in over three decades, two teams that were underdogs of 15 points or more by the NBA betting odds won outright. The San Antonio Spurs knocked off the Sacramento Kings in overtime as a 16-point underdog, and the Portland Trail Blazers edged the Minnesota Timberwolves despite being a 19-point underdog. Given the top four spots in the NBA Draft lottery are locked up, there is no longer as big of an incentive to tank, and the oddsmakers and bettors alike seem to be overreacting to that fact.

The Chicago Bulls have been feisty over the last couple weeks. Chicago was on the edge of the playoff bubble, but the Bulls have won seven of their last ten games to essentially guarantee themselves of a spot in the play-in tournament. They are a game behind the Atlanta Hawks and the Toronto Raptors for the No. 8 seed, and Chicago would love to move into that position in order to get two bites at the apple.

Surprisingly, Chicago is 2-1 against Milwaukee already this season. The Bulls won their first two games against the Bucks and lost by 12 points in their lone defeat at the hands of the best team in the league. That gives them a good amount of confidence although both teams will be playing the second game of a back-to-back.

Milwaukee has a two-game lead on Boston for the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference, but the Celtics have the tiebreaker. The Bucks want to salt away home court as soon as possible, so I expect them to crush Washington on Tuesday night in order to move one step closer. They will likely be double digit favorites at home against the Bulls the following evening, so I’ll take Chicago and the points.

It's a little risky to back the Dallas Mavericks given what we’ve seen out of them recently. Dallas has lost seven of its last eight games, and the Mavericks only win in that stretch was against the Indiana Pacers. However, this team appears desperate to make the playoffs, so I’m expecting a strong push over the team’s three-game homestand to end the regular season.

Dallas will host Sacramento on Wednesday night, and although the Kings are the only team with a winning road record in the Western Conference, they won’t be too motivated to finish the season strong. Sacramento is almost certainly going to be the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference playoffs, so this team is likely going to concentrate on giving key players rest after a long regular season.

The Over could be a great bet in this game too depending on the number. Sacramento has the most efficient offense in the league, and the Kings have a bad defense. Dallas has really fallen apart on defense since the Kyrie Irving trade too, so this game could easily get in the 250s or 260s.
