NBA March 5 Parlay Picks

Unfortunately, I didn’t hit either leg of my parlay for Wednesday. To be fair, I didn’t realize that Oklahoma City superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander would be out, but that’s the rub when you are betting NBA parlays a few days in advance. It looks as if the Thunder may be secretly tanking given the race in the Western Conference and the fact that they are a year away anyway due to the Chet Holmgren injury, so that’s something to keep in mind over the last month-and-a-half of the NBA season.

As for my other pick, Charlotte was simply awful at home against Phoenix. The Hornets were a double-digit underdog as anticipated, but they shot just 36.4% from the floor in a 14-point loss to the Suns. Additionally, Charlotte was without two of its best players as LaMelo Ball fractured his ankle on Monday and P.J. Washington was ruled out due to a foot injury.

There is going to be a lot of buzz surrounding the Orlando Magic going into next season. Orlando was terrible through the first third of the year, winning just five of its first 25 games. The Magic have a 21-17 record since that point though, and they have been one of the most exciting teams to watch in that stretch. No. 1 overall pick Paolo Banchero is a veritable shoo-in to be named NBA Rookie of the Year barring injury, and the Wagner brothers are playing well too. Markelle Fultz has rejuvenated his career with the Magic, and this team will have two top ten picks in the 2023 NBA Draft as a result of the Nikola Vucevic trade with Chicago.

Portland has been somewhat exciting too and is in the playoff mix in the Western Conference. Damian Lillard is coming off a 70-point game last week, but this team has largely shot its wad and hasn’t won a road game in over a month. They do not have the size to deal with Orlando, and the Magic should be able to use their depth to beat the Blazers who are very shallow.

Meanwhile, the Memphis Grizzlies are moving in the opposite direction. Memphis looked like a real title contender a couple months ago, but the Grizzlies are 7-10 over their last 17 games. They did have an impressive win over Denver last weekend, but that was the exception to the rule. Now, they will have to deal with some off-court controversy after reporters uncovered allegations of Ja Morant threatening a mall security director and punching a teenager over the summer.

Although the Los Angeles Clippers have lost three straight games prior to their back-to-back road tilts against Golden State and Sacramento on Thursday and Friday night, they are still a team to be feared. Kawhi Leonard is playing out of his mind, and Mason Plumlee has been a nice addition since coming over from Charlotte. The big concern is Russell Westbrook, but he will be a boon against a team like Memphis in this one on Sunday.
