NBA Sunday, March 19 Parlay Picks

I followed up my three-team parlay winner last Friday with a dud on Sunday winning only one of three wagers, once again proving how difficult it is to hit a multi-team winner. And that’s why sportsbooks offer attractive odds on parlays. That doesn’t prevent me from continuing my quest to back another winner and the slate of games on the NBA schedule for Sunday, March 19 offers plenty of betting options. Last week I backed Denver in a matchup with the Brooklyn Nets expecting the Western Conference leaders to continue their homecourt dominance. It was an informed enough wager that looked like a solid one at the time since the Nuggets have the best home record in the NBA. Not only did they fail to cover the 9-point spread the Nuggets lost the game. Denver also lost two nights later at Toronto starting their 5-game Eastern Conference road trip with a fourth straight setback and five consecutive ATS losses. I’m still not sure about Brooklyn after their roster transformation so I’ll stay away from the rematch. It’s a good thing there are plenty of other games.

I think I’ve mentioned several times that the Bucks are deep and talented, which is why they have surpassed Boston in the East and currently own the best record in the NBA. Tuesday’s 116-104 win over Phoenix was their 21st in the last 23 games and they’ve done it with a mixture of lineup combinations. Their only two losses since January 21 were by three points to Philadelphia and in OT at Golden State when they played without Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Bucks can relax a bit now with Sunday’s tilt the middle of a three-game homestand.

One thing that can’t go overlooked is how the Bucks play for each other. That was on display in their win last week at Sacramento with Brook Lopez taking offense to Giannis being harassed and shoved by Trey Lyles. Lopez immediately stood up for his teammate and the best player in the league. The Bucks earned payouts in the final two games of their trip going 12-5 ATS during a 17-game stretch. They also have one of the better home cover rates in the NBA with payouts 60.6 percent of the time.

When two poor defensive teams meet you have to think about backing the OVER. Well, I not only thought about it I did it. San Antonio allows an average of nearly 122 points while the Hawks give up 117.5 per game. Oddsmakers will adjust and set the total high but these clubs are well positioned to still hit the OVER. Atlanta has played above the total in a NBA high 58 percent of their games while the Spurs have cashed the OVER in 57.6 percent of theirs. The OVER is also 5-1 in the last six series meetings giving me confidence the clubs can surpass the number.

I just can’t seem to stay away from the LA-based teams in this section. Maybe it’s because one or both of them always seem to play on Sunday or perhaps it’s because they’re peaking at the right time. At least this week it’s the Clippers that I’m backing in their road tilt with Portland. The clubs are headed in opposite directions with the Clips winning three straight following a disastrous five-game skid. Their best players have been just that with Kawhi Leonard and Paul George setting the tone. Leonard looks like his pre-ACL self dropping 38 points in a win over the Knicks with George adding 22 points. And the Blazers are dropping fast in the West. Tuesday’s setback to New York was their fourth straight allowing at least 115 points in every game.
