NCAA Basketball Odds - SEC Tournament Preview

NCAA Basketball Odds

The Kentucky Wildcats have dominated the SEC men’s hoops tournament in recent years, winning four consecutive titles heading into this year’s action. Kentucky will be a fashionable pick once again, but in a rarity, it is not the favorite to claim the tourney title. That honor goes to the Tennessee Volunteers, who have put together an impressive season and would love to knock the Wildcats off the perch.

Both teams are ranked in the top-10 in the country, as are the LSU Tigers, so this figures to be a fun and intriguing conference tournament. Kentucky is in good shape to claim a No. 1 seed for March Madness with the title but it won’t be an easy climb against an excellent field.

The SEC was more competitive than usual during the regular season and we will see if that continues into the conference tournament in NCAA men’s basketball gambling.

This SEC Tournament will be held at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee from Wednesday, March 13th through Sunday, March 17th, 2019. The SEC Tournament championship game will be nationally televised on ESPN.

Odds Analysis

Kentucky might not be quite as dominant as in past years but it is still a really talented team. The Wildcats wrapped up the regular season with a mark of 26-5 overall and 15-3 in the conference. The Wildcats won two straight games to end the regular season but finished in a tie for second place in the SEC standings behind LSU. Kentucky’s odds to win the tournament are set at +200.

Tennessee went 27-4 overall and 15-3 in the conference. The Volunteers were ranked No. 1 in the country for a stretch and have a great collection of talent. Tennessee stumbled a bit down the stretch but there was nothing too worrisome. The Volunteers are listed at +190 to win the conference and are the team to beat.

LSU usually would have been right up there in the mix with the Wildcats and Vols but it is dealing with some turmoil. Tigers coach Will Wade is suspended indefinitely and point guard Javonte Smart is being held out in the midst of a recruiting and eligibility scandal. Additionally, Naz Reid is dealing with an injury and his availability is not known. LSU went 26-5 overall and 16-2 in the SEC to win the outright league title. The controversy is coming up at a horrible time with the conference tournament upon us and March Madness just around the corner. LSU’s odds are set at +420 because of the issue.

Auburn also has +420 odds to win the tournament. The Tigers went 22-9 overall and 11-7 in the conference. Auburn is ranked in the top-25 nationally and is a nice sleeper pick to make a deep run.

Those are the four main contenders as every other team in the tournament is a heavy underdog.

Kentucky started the season slowly but has found a nice groove of late. Tennessee has a good team but it’s a mild surprise that the Wildcats aren’t the favorites. Take advantage of that lapse in judgment by the oddsmakers and choose Kentucky to win a fifth straight SEC title.

The odds are right as this is one of the best picks among any of the conference tournament winners in NCAA men’s basketball odds.
