White Sox at Yankees Sunday Night Baseball Betting

A brilliant starting pitching matchup is set to go down in the finale between the Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees with Dylan Cease set to square off against Jameson Taillon in a pairing of exciting right-handers. The former got a taste of what it’s like to throw at the Bronx Bombers in his most recent start. It didn’t go too well even though he racked up 11 strikeouts. The latter looks to finally be living up to his top prospect billing from years past coming up through the Pittsburgh Pirates system. The Yankees cashed in at online sportsbooks in all but one of his six made starts heading into Tuesday’s run-in with the Baltimore Orioles. He figures to once again be tough on the Pale Hose like he was a season ago, but something tells me this is a spot Cease will step up in after getting peppered by Aaron Judge and company just 10 days ago.

First pitch for the series finale between the Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees is scheduled for Sunday, May 22, 2022, at 7 p.m. ET from Yankee Stadium. This week’s Sunday Night Baseball telecast will air live on ESPN. Bet on MLB odds and player props at BookMaker.eu every day of the season.

Odds Analysis

Chicago went into last week’s home showdown with the Bronx Bombers on a bit of a run having come out victorious in eight of its previous 10 games. Even so, the Yankees proved to be too stiff a test as they blitzed White Sox pitching to the tune of 32 runs to take three of the four games in the extended series. After claiming the 5-3 win in extras on Monday night, Chicago clawed back to the .500 mark which has equated into better than a $180 deficit for its wagering supporters. Dependent upon how the remaining road trek in Kansas City goes, they’ll invade Gotham as a potential winning ball club on the road. Aaron Boone’s squad continues to be the toast of the league with it still the only team remaining not to have lost at least 10 games. Their 26-9 record has only produced $743 worth of baseball betting profit. That’s how it goes when you go off the board favored to win in all but two of 35 played games. The club sits 10-games over .500 as a host, but has only secured $389 in profit doing so.

Probable Pitchers

Dylan Cease R: The flame throwing right-hander had conceded a grand total of one home run through his first six starts. Then he introduced himself to Giancarlo Stanton who took him yard for two-run bombs the two times he faced him. Cease was tagged for six hits 2 HR and 6 ER in the four-inning effort. He did however ring up 11 strikeouts in one of the more bizarre stat lines of the season. The back and forth affair ended up seeing him take a no-decision. He’ll toe the bump in the first game of Tuesday’s doubleheader at KC looking to improve upon his 3-1 record and 3.55 ERA. His 58 total strikeouts currently find him tied atop the leaderboard with Shane McClanahan. He’s gone for eight or more Ks in all but one start, and I foresee another crooked number hung in the rematch with a Yankees offense that’s struck out at the league’s fourth highest clip over the last week. With that, I’m hitting the over of his K prop!

Jameson Taillon R: Like tonight’s opponent, this will be the right-handers second start of the week after throwing at the O’s Tuesday night. He was solid per usual in the start before that back on May 11 in tossing 5.1 innings of 2 ER ball at Vlad Guerrero Jr. and the Toronto Blue Jays. The effort allowed for his third win of the season moving him to 3-1 with a 2.93 ERA and 1.17 WHIP. His 3.23 FIP is currently the best of his career, but his 9.7 hits per nine innings average is also the second highest. What’s kept his counting stats on the up-and-up has been his ability to not issue free passes with his 0.9 BB/9 the best of his career. No team has taken fewer walks than the White Sox, so he’s likely to be in line for the second quality start of his 2022 campaign provided Chicago’s bats don’t wake up against right-handed pitching No. 23. Hit the over of Taillon’s pitching outs prop if you can find it. It’ll likely be in the neighborhood of 15 to 15.5.

White Sox vs. Yankees Prediction

It’s going to be hot and sticky by the time these clubs step onto the playing field to close out their series on Sunday night. With the air thick and playing conditions not ideal, I’m expecting weather to play a major role in this tilt. With that, look for fly balls to remain in the yard to keep this matchup of the lower scoring variety. I’m bullish on both starting hurlers being in a position to log quality starts. Provided the better arms aren’t used in the previous game, that should set us up for a solid under play; both for the first five innings with the starters excelling as well as the full game. These teams saw the O/U split in their four games in Chicago. Combined, they’ve played to low scorers at a 39-28-2 clip. Yup, sign me up for another low scorer!
